Kutch- A Liberating Experience.
When I expressed my desire to dress like one of them, the beautiful women of our homestay in kutch (without hesitation) started rushing here and there, some to grab powder, some to grab their kajal(completely organic) and some to grab this dress.
Within the next 10 mins, I was dressed completely as a Kutchi woman with so many bangles( chuda - as they call it ) and I realised how uncomfortable it was for me.I immediately called Sonakshi to click pictures (she is the artist behind all our pictures). I could barely bend my hand, let alone working the entire day in the kitchen, taking care of household and babies wearing it. I wonder, if it's not the women of the world, then who could continue such traditions and culture?
This dress, every thread of it, is made by the women themselves, no tailor, no boutique, nothing. It's completely hand - stitched.
When we expressed our desire to buy one of the beautiful kutchi-dress, we felt broke hearing the price of it.
.But one thing that we realised was - no cars, branded clothes and big houses would ever make us happy, it will always be the hand-stitched dresses and locally manufactured clothing pieces. It will always be the simplest of homes with the biggest of kind-hearted people.
It took me no longer than 10 minutes to realise how much I love knowing and interacting the locals of a new place and share their stories with an audience. Happy to share. :)
