Job Search Strategy
It always starts with a high-flying job description, great responsibilities, and a rigid list of requirements seeking a super hero. Commonly referred to as a candidate.

Those that know me, know that I created this phrase back in 2008 when I launched Rip The Resume. Over the years, it has shown itself to be fun and even more true over time. Fun for those that understand how to evaluate job descriptions AND have a strategy for performing a solid job search.
I recently did an interview with Ebony Magazine that spoke to those in transition. In such, one of the tips I mentioned was that one might have better results if they created a professional spider web. Let me expound on such so that the concept has more value. See below:
IFTTT Alerts:
Google Alerts keep you abreast of what is taking place in the industry. IFTTT is the super power. That may sound like a strange name, but for anyone like me who’s in the customer relationship management (CRM space), IFTTT stands for If This Then That. It’s a workflow tool for you. IFTTT is predicted to become the backbone of the next wave of Internet of Things technologies.
Hoovers:
The things that people commonly focus on are the company, but do not have the slightest idea about where the company fits into the industry or the industry itself. Use Hoovers to access the largest commercial database of 85 million companies, 100 million professionals, and 900 industry segments; relevant social media links; and customizable news feeds. Their industry-specific business analysts compile unbiased insights on the top 43,000 global companies, including publicly traded and private ones. Find reports on key competitors, financials, and executives in clear summary formats.
Zoominfo:
Sites like Zoominfo allow the recruiting process to be organized and streamlined bringing the people puzzle together. Backed by a database that contains over 140 million businesspeople and 9.3 million businesses, their Growth Acceleration Platform dynamically puts professionals in position to identify, connect, and engage with qualified contacts. There is a paid version, but the complimentary version provides access to information that may deem useful in the interview process. A part of the star candidates formula for uncovering who they should approach and how. The how helps them to meet the needs of companies and shape the conversation.
Salary.com:
I can attest people showing up and have no idea of what they have the potential to earn because they just accept whatever is thrown out there. Get acquainted with all the resources that are available to you and use them. One resource is the Salary.com Salary Center, where users can access in-depth salary information, read about ways to negotiate a higher salary, and map out their own path for capturing their full economic value at work.
The spider web wraps you around the industry allowing you to focus on companies of interest and competitors. The job seekers charge should be to arrive most prepared with dexterity in conversation, but to also be able and willing to extend the boundary of opportunity.
We win when prepared for opportunity. #gotime

Excellent info Torin.
Absolutely Marsha Tomlin - same application indeed. Thank you for commenting and listening!
I appreciate your writing this post and sharing tips on SiriusXM/Karen Hunter Show. It's crazy how we forget the basics. I remember using Hoovers and ZoomInfo in grad school for projects. How? For SWOT analysis, market intelligence, or business consulting. Same research applies to my job search.
Thank you Benedicte Corneliussen and Bobs Celestin for commenting/sharing. Appreciate you both.
Great tips here and shared with my connections.
