Issue #8 - Colour Picking Tools for Web Design
There are two things I can spend all day looking at: fonts and colour palettes. There are so many to choose from! But in this issue, I’ll focus on tools for picking colours.
A couple years ago, I found myself drawn to this coffee cup, shown in the above cover photo. (Can't remember where I got it from.) I also saw a pair of sneakers that had similar colours. So for one of my many redesign ideas for my personal website, I created a colour palette from these two objects. The plan was to use a different colour theme for each section of the website. Long story short, I never got around to doing it because updating my website always ends up on the back burner. Other projects usually take priority. Someday, maybe, I’ll get around to it!
But most of the time I use various online tools for choosing colours. I love Coolors for creating palettes. But fair warning, you might end up spending a lot of time just looking at all the pretty combinations!
And if I want to create a gradient palette, I’ve always kept this tool from CSS-Tricks bookmarked.
Another great tool is Randoma11y, which allows you to browse through high contrast colour pairs to increase readability for those with vision impairments. They also create other tools such as custom syntax highlighting, gradients, SVG generators and more.

I love these kind of posts. Excited to see what other information you have for us!
Fonts and colors all day! Me too. 😁
There's so many of them, it's overwhelming. Coolors reminds me or looks like the old Adobe Color, which was my go to color palette. Sometimes I find that the options aren't quite right. They look great in the swatches, but maybe a project that showed colors on a sample site design might be better.
I am not a web designer, but I love this topic. Thanks for the links, I loved them
Have you seen the book Palette Perfect by Lauren Wager. I just love it.
