Issue #4 | Theme: The Complexity in Decision-Making

Spark:

A coachee once came to me with a dilemma. She had received a fantastic offer, nearly a 60% hike.

On paper, the choice seemed obvious. Yet she hesitated to say “yes.” What looked like an exciting opportunity didn’t translate into an easy decision, leaving her confused.

As we explored her hesitation, we uncovered something deeper.

The struggle wasn’t about salary or role. It was about letting go of the identity tied to her current organization’s brand.

What appeared to be a career decision was, in truth, an identity crisis.

💡 Shift:

Decision-making often appears to be a cognitive skill: listing pros and cons, weighing outcomes, and then making a choice.

But it’s not always that straightforward.

More often, indecision comes from blockers that are rarely logical. They’re emotional - fear of loss, fear of change, fear of the unknown, or fear of who we might become without familiar anchors.

The shift comes when we pause and ask ourselves questions such as:

- What am I worried will happen if I move forward with this decision?

- Am I moving towards something meaningful, or simply away from discomfort?

- What might I lose if I say yes?

- What might be the cost of staying where I am?

🪞 Mirror:

- What stories or behaviors might be shaping your current choices?

- Which beliefs could you release to create more freedom in your life?

- What aspect of your identity might need to shift to give birth to new ways of being?

💌 Invitation:

I’d love to hear what resonated with you. What is your process for taking key decisions?

And if the questions in this edition helped you move forward with a decision, I’d be delighted to hear more about that too!

Decisions are rarely just about numbers; they’re mirrors reflecting our fears, values, and unspoken stories. True leadership and growth come when we pause, explore what’s beneath the surface, and choose in alignment with our authentic selves.

This is very true to many professionals. They fear to let go of the comfort, the identity, the comunity that they've build in the present organisation. A sense of belonging. When it comes to venturing out of that comfort zone, many still hesitate because they're unsure whether they'll be able to blend into the new organisation or a new venture. Even the prospect of a better position or a better salary often doesn't easily sway them because of the comfort & community that they've build in the present organisation. I felt the same way too when I used to work before. And I stuck to the same organisation until I decided to quit to raise a family. So, for many the fear of uncertainty stops them from venturing out of their comfort zone.
