Internship experience at Mystic Brains

Internship experience at Mystic Brains

My internship as a Graphic Design Intern at Mystic Brains has been the most enriching experience I have had as a student at the ARCH College of Design and Business. I interned from July 2022 and had the pleasure of working with the core team until the end of September 2022.

I got my internship because of the idea of a card game that me and my friend worked on. It resembled the role we were needed for- designing exercises and games for the course. Through this internship, I wanted to know how a start-up works and test my graphic design skills.

During my time here as an intern, not only was I able to improve my skill sets but also build some new ones. Along with designing posters, brochures, presentations, Instagram posts and branding stationery, I was also involved in various non-graphic design roles which included copywriting and editing, social media management (majorly Instagram), designing course exercises, hosting events along with my team and office management.

The major roles that we played were decided by us, this being the benefit of a start-up; we had no positions and received feedback directly. I tried to solve some of the existing complications for Mystic Brains by creating a Brand Identity for them. Designing the required brand elements like logo, typography and colour palette was the initial task I took up.

‘Business ki Pathshala’ (BKP) is a course by Mystic Brains which also needed attention. The launch of this course was hosted by an event to which I volunteered as the master of ceremony. Giving BKP an image was my second task which I tackled by giving it an identity.

Another significant opportunity for me was to write content for various platforms, Instagram being the major one. Making content which resonated with the identity of BKP was challenging yet exciting. I studied how Instagram works and tried to make posts which would resemble the Indian and Western markets.

Mystic Brains and Business ki Pathshala have different target audiences with different demographics and psychographics. This was a challenge which made me think in different ways to cater to all at the same time.

One of the challenges I faced was working and studying simultaneously. Doing the tasks needed at work and college assignments would have been an issue if we did not have flexible timings which allowed us to work after my college hours, helping tremendously. But with flexibility comes great responsibility. Since there are not many people in a start-up, I realised that each member becomes a pillar working towards the success of the company; because of this, it is crucial to know exactly what you are doing.

My major learnings while working in this start-up can be considered life lessons. I got to learn how an organisation works, prioritising the given work, time management, formal communication skills, teamwork, workplace ethics, flexibility in work, networking and some technical skills like software, resources and programmes. I felt like I was a bigger piece of the puzzle.

I got to experience things like sticking to the plan until the very end (till it fails) because it always turns out to be better, things may not always work out the way we want them to, so doing it at the right time is better than doing it with perfection any other time.

I can say that interning at a start-up is extremely beneficial for students like me who are interested in multiple fields and want to experience how each of these work. This experience taught me many things which I may not have found at a normal company or an organisation. I am grateful for the opportunity I received to work at Mystic Brains under such honest and understanding mentors Raj Kumar Jani (Sir) and Vikram Sharma (Sir).
