The Importance of Learning HTML/CSS
Having a website is crucial for your business's success in 2020. Coding the website yourself may sound pretty scary, but there are ways you can create a website that will reel in your potential customers!
There are several routes you can take when developing your brand's online presence. You can use website-building sites like Squarespace and Wix, which makes the process a lot simpler. If you find yourself being held back from website-building sites, then coding your site might be the answer you're looking for!
Each website-building site has its own pros and cons. Personally, I have created websites on both Wix and Squarespace and have enjoyed using both platforms. I created my overall portfolio on Squarespace, which shows all of my most recent work. Last year, I created a Wix site for my class to showcase what I learned during the quarter. I found Squarespace to be the better platform, but I still believe it is missing certain features that I am after. One website-builder that I am excited to try out soon is Webflow. This platform allows you to build the website both visually and with code. I feel like this platform is the best of both worlds for those who want to code their own site and avoid the limitations of a website-building site.
Now let's get into the nitty-gritty of HTML and CSS coding. HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, is the basic layout of a website. Once you finish writing your HTML code, you have to add CSS, or Cascade Style Sheets, to customize the page. Learning to code seems pretty daunting, but resources like Codecademy make the learning process a lot easier.
After a few months of learning, you'll be able to code your own website and avoid the limitations of a website builder. Last summer, I coded my own website and had a blast learning how to code. Unfortunately, I have not hosted this website yet, but I am planning on hosting it soon!
It is very important to learn how to code when creating a business in 2020. You may not have to code your entire website, but it will be helpful to make small changes without paying someone to fix everything.
