Enter the studio of a creative entrepreneur
How would you like to get paid for doing something you love? Can you imagine yourself becoming a creative entrepreneur? Is there something you’re passionate about, that you could do all day, without stopping to eat or drink, you’re so into the flow. If you answered yes to this question, you might just have it in you to make a successful career out of it.
The idea of starting a creative business is scary and my mom did not want me to starve.
I started my career in a job, granted, doing something I love. I had been lucky enough to know my passion in life early on. A talent for drawing and painting developed itself over the years into a love for communications. And this put me onto a sensible path into the world of graphic design. My mother was satisfied at least.
The idea of starting a creative business is scary and my mom did not want me to starve. But after working at a job for several years, I started to feel pinned down and unfulfilled. I had a burning desire to make more out of my creative energy, learn more, get more experience and more freedom. There’s never an ideal time to start a creative business. Sometimes you’re just thrust into the fire and this is what happened to me.
Living the dream really is a possibility
When I hung my sign out at VechtclubXL, a creative hub/workspot, I found a tribe of creative brains and energy like never before. This environment of creative entrepreneurs encouraged me and nourished the idea that living the dream really was a possibility.
Becoming a creative entrepreneur, it’s important to build your network and find mentors, people who can teach you new things and help encourage you to keep on keeping on when times get tough.
But what exactly does it mean to be a creative entrepreneur? Curious about VechtclubXL creative entrepreneurs around me, I decided to ask them directly. Together with stylist/designer Renske Versluijs, photographer Simone van Rees and the film crew from Hustle Creatives we approached a few of these creative entrepreneurs. They gave us a peek into the source of their own creative fire, how they combine business with their art and the stunning results of it.
We photographed their work and created a series of interviews and films, which we will roll out in the weeks to come.
