Confessions Of A Executive Administrative Assistant
Some of the confusion that arises when describing jobs roles is that Executive Assistants and Receptionists are the same. Usually roles filled by women which can be gender neutral are not confined to just women, holding EA positions within a company. Since these are my thoughts I will address both women and men Executive Assistants. First and foremost Executive Assistants and Receptionists are not the same job roles nor do the same job duties. Executive Assistants is a position with a lot of influence and responsibility.
Executive Assistants are the bosses "right hand man" in terms of how much power the boss distributes in the office. In a matter of speaking the Executive Assistant is the bosses mouthpiece with regards, to how the office in the company is managed. Receptionist roles may be limited to how much the job role requires, the receptionist may not have power to manage the corporate checkbook. Usually for a person who is a Executive Assistant some just say it is a fancy word for Secretary or Receptionist.
Executive Assistant typically would have more hands on experience working for C-level executives in a company. The Executive Assistant will understand the complexity of the many functions of a company or corporation. This knowledge will aid the Executive Assistant in managing issues within all levels of management. The Executive Assistant at times would be of other assistance to different C-levels in the company or corporation. Meaning the Executive Assistant will have knowledge of what the other C-levels job positions are. The amount of access to personal corporate accounts and lines of credit. Personal emails, names, clients addresses, all should be handled confidential and kept locked and key with the EA personal files.
The Executive Assistant will be the backup to the computer's backup when sensitive company files need to categorized. The main asset of a Executive Assistant would be trust. The Executive Assistant has to be a trust worthy person literally in every aspect of his or her life. The amount of control a Executive Assistant that has been given by their superior, is given based off experience but as well as trust. Some job roles that I have occupied I was given corporate access to the assets. It was my role as the Executive Assistant to manage personal as well as corporate monetary assets. As well as my duty to make sure no one else was stealing or misusing funds.
The Executive Assistant is a job role that I take with pride, since I am proceeded by my reputation as being trustworthy. After I have signed a NDA I take what I am privy to to my grave. Unless my company is being investigated by the SEC which will give me cause to worry for my job as a EA, I fulfill my duties with the utmost confidentiality.
