Co-Creating? Is this your normal or the future of your work?

Co-Creating? Is this your normal or the future of your work?

As we continue to explore what "hybrid work" means and how it impacts our teams, roles, and projects; we have so many emotions, concerns, and hopes.

When I think about what will make a hybrid work structure successful, it's all about "co-creating". Can we effectively co-create as teams and knowledge workers?

Here is a video on what Co-Creating is from my LinkedIn Learning course on Business Analysis Competencies.

Co-Creating goes beyond the role of BAs and into just about any professional role!

Some think it's too many meetings! Well, if the meetings are poorly designed and facilitated, yes, they can be ineffective! Co-Creating is not a bunch of meetings of coordination and status updates. Co-creating is about high quality conversations getting to the real decision considerations a team is working on.

Well facilitated co-creation saves time, increases morale, and gets to better ideas and solutions.

Co-Creating when remote: Make sure to have an online visual workspace everyone can access and work on together while meeting. This is far beyond screen sharing, this is about everyone adding sticky notes, moving things around, adding comments, and voting direction with the team together as they work in the same meeting.

Co-Creating when in person: Much like the video above, this requires a workspace with whiteboards, sticky notes, markers and physical props to help the team work together to co-create.

Co-Creating when hybrid, some in the office, some not: Follow the remote process with all having access to the same workspace (electronically). Those in the room each need a computer to contribute! When doing breakouts groups, the in-person room can be it's own breakout.

All can be effective, efficient, and work! It requires the right planning and skills to pull off the planning and facilitation of these sessions. Teams that are skilled in this type of thinking and collaboration are very successful and often more productive than in-person teams not optimizing co-creation themselves.

How are you co-creating?
