Chasing That ‘My Company’ Feeling

Chasing That ‘My Company’ Feeling

I’ve been lucky to work somewhere I could stand in front of the mirror and say, “This is my company.” It wasn’t just about a paycheck - it was the culture, the way we did things, that felt so right to me. But lately, things flipped when the company I knew went through a shift. I’m not looking back tho - I’m jumping into this change, wanting to make this new place “mine” too. It’s got me wondering what it really takes and how I can be a big piece of making it happen.

Over the years, I’ve seen three kinds of “love” people have for their jobs. It’s helping me figure out where I stand now in this new part of my story.

Some people, they’re all about the money. It’s what keeps them showing up - real and simple. I get that; cash counts. But me? I’ve never been okay with just that. I’m not here to grab a check and go - I want something bigger from this company, and I’m ready to dig in for it.

Then there’s the pull of a great boss. I’ve had leaders who could light up a room, give us a direction, make you wanna follow them. That’s strong stuff, it can make a place feel alive. I’m wondering who those people might be here. Could they get me fired up? Maybe. But I’m not just waiting for someone to show me what this place is, I wanna help shape it myself.

The big one, though, is loving the culture - the values, the ideas, how it all fits together. That’s what’s pushed me before: being part of something that matters, like figuring out problems with the team or nailing down details that actually help. I still think about those warehouse tech challenges - diving in, feeling that “I own this” vibe. That’s what I’m after now. I wanna say “my company” again, not just cause I’m here, but cause I’m tied to what we’re building.

This shift turned everything upside down. The tech’s different, the team’s changing, and I don’t even know all the answers yet. But I’m not here to sit back - I wanna be a big part of this company, part of writing its next success story. That means jumping into the mess, finding what clicks for me, maybe even helping make the culture what it could be.

I don’t wanna just watch from the side. I’m ready to make this place feel like home - not only for me, but for everybody. Leaders can’t hand that off, it’s on us all to build it, day by day.

Have you ever been through a shake-up like this? How’d you make it your own, or help it grow? I’d love your thoughts while I’m figuring out this ride.

Building the right culture is crucial to me as well. It fosters loyalty and builds teams that will go the extra mile.
