Beyond the Personal Brand
I have a personal brand promise: “Enable exceptional sales and technical professionals to exceed their potential.” It’s something I believe in and practice every day. But simply having a brand promise isn’t enough. You have to live it.
Every day, you build and evolve your reputation, or personal brand promise, which is based on the experiences people have with you.
It’s connected to the commitments you make and keep, the actions or inactions you take, the words you say, and the way you present yourself. It’s the singular image that is triggered in the minds of others when they think of you, or when your name comes up in a conversation.
Some important points to remember about personal brands are that:
· Every person has one, whether they realize it or not
· Some are stronger than others
· They’re not just about personality
· Big benefits are associated with strong personal brands
· They need to evolve and grow over time
For me it means that, before every phone call, before every coaching session, before every meeting, I think about what will bring about the best outcome for the other person. Even with our children, I look for ways to encourage them to be the best they can be. I am constantly on the lookout for ideas, articles, books, blogs, YouTube videos – anything that will influence the lives I care about in a positive way, so that each and every one exceeds his or her potential.
A strong personal brand promise means people think of you when they need something you’ve made yourself known for, something that makes you stand out and be exceptional.
So decide what that “something” is and start using each and every important touchpoint in your life to show the world who you are – by living what you’ve promised yourself to be.
