An Aeronautical Engineer Catches The Data Analytics Flight: Simplilearn Learner Asfar Hameed’s Unique Story

In this episode, Krishna Kumar will be chatting up with Simplilearn Learner Asfar Hameed , who has a very interesting story to share. 

Asfar’s background

Asfar, who hails from Chennai, has some unique facets in his journey so far: his education in aerospace engineering, a 2-year stint in aviation security, then a newfound interest in crypto trading, and finally the taking off of his business ambitions. 

His aviation security career came to a screeching halt in the middle of 2019, when Jet Airways ceased operations. Not one to waste time, Asfar immediately set his eyes on the retail clothing business and got started. Things took off, but had to crash land during the pandemic. 

Adapting in a fluctuating market

It was the time to adapt and readjust. Asfar did exactly that. He shifted focus to the hardware business and started striking up connections with vendors across India. It was at this point that he realized the need for data-driven insights in his business. It’s a data-driven world, and understanding data is key to taste business success. 

The right course for ‘course’ correction

He then began the search for a good course that could offer him in-depth learning and also the flexibility to suit his schedule. His quest led him to the Simplilearn program in partnership with Purdue University: Professional Certificate in Data Analytics. In his own words, he found his ‘upskilling partner’! He dedicated his evenings and weekends to learning, while managing his business during the regular hours. 

There was a shift in his mindset during this learning journey. He felt the urge to shift focus from retail to an actual career in data analytics. The upskilling efforts boosted his resume, and now he was able to attract the right opportunities. Just 2 months after completing his course, he landed a job with Oxford International as a Data Analyst. His upskilling efforts paid off! He’s now floating steadily in the data analytics waters and also having fun. 

The one constant

Throughout all these transitions, one thing was constant—Asfar’s hunger for learning. He dedicated a majority of his energies to learning and upskilling at important junctions of his career.
