5 Tools for Teachers
1. Piktochart – This is a site that I use almost every day, that’s why it’s number one. It’s an easy way to create infographics, presentations, and posters. A lot of their templates you can use for free. But I would recommend getting the pro version. It only cost $120 for 4 months if you are in education. And if you’re a student it’s even cheaper. 2. Wideo – Earlier this year I told myself I wanted to start to grow my personal YouTube channel. So the question I had for myself was how do I do that without spending a ton of time on it… Time is a premium these days! So this is where Wideo comes in. It’s an easy to use video software that holds a number of useful templates for you to create short courses, intro videos, explainer videos and much more. It’s sort of like Piktochart for video! I think it’s only $4 a month as an educator. Here's an example I put together in less than 5 minutes.
3. Pic Monkey – As a hobby, I carry around a Canon 70D and take as many pictures and videos as I can. I’m pretty proficient with Adobe products and I definitely use Adobe Premier Pro for video editing. However, for quick edits with pictures I always use Pic Monkey. It’s really cheap, only $5 a month I believe. And it’s really fast at pumping out quality pictures for any slide presentations or graphics you need.
4. Zoom – I always used Skype but for some reason I changed to Zoom about a month ago and it has been a game changer. It is free for 4 users up to 45 minute phone calls. And you can share your screen to show the viewers your desktop. Record your sessions as well for people that could not make the live video conference. And if you want to up the game, it’s only $15 a month for premium accounts.
5. Edevate - Okay so I must plug my company, Edevate, but for a good reason! We’re currently looking to host courses on our platform completely free. Whereas different platforms charge a hosting fee or take out revenue from each course you sell, Edevate does not! Our software is very easy to use and extremely robust. You can do everything from creating quizzes, discussion boards, cohorts and more. The platform allows for you to just drag and drop content that you already have onto the course itself. We’re using this content to create MicroDegrees for companies all over the world, providing additional income for your online business.
