30 yrs of craigslist: how it got that name

30 yrs of craigslist: how it got that name

Middle of 1995, I needed to start using a listserver, Majordomo, courtesy of Eric Theise

It needs a name

I was going to call it "San Francisco events", since it was mostly that

Anthony Batt tells me that people call it "Craig's List", that is, I've inadvertantly created a "brand"

He tells me what a "brand" is

He's right

Bonus: "craigslist" all lowercase, my decision, to de-emphasize "Craig"

Other bonus: people are surprised to see there's an actual Craig

Here's the story in more detail...

Dear Craig from craigslist. Would you be so kind as to call me at 808-732-1402 for only 10 minutes as I need your advice generating a global teaching platform. Thank you, Professor Amy

You are the first and only billionaire that wrote me back and did so several times. Meant a lot to me. Thank you. Love the modesty of the story
