20 Years & Counting...My voyage as a technologist.
Earlier this week, I completed 20 years of my career in IT industry and I was pondering about my journey so far which made me think of using this as an opportunity to write my first LinkedIn article.
As anyone or everyone would say, it has been a complete roller coaster ride…. varying from walking on a rough terrain to running on a motorway with cruise control. I thought of penning down my learnings & sharing it with everyone.
- Think long term and be patient. Don’t judge your career like a stock market (full of ups & downs daily) rather think of it as a long journey where it’s not about competing with others. Its more about how you can co-exist in the ecosystem and keep moving.
- Don’t let the Entrepreneur in you die. Always think if it’s the right thing to do if it was your own organization and look for the right mix of short term & long-term goals
- Understand the business problem first. Look for every opportunity to get more business context as it will help you design the right solutions. Once you have the complete context then apply a lens from technology & PM processes perspective and not the other way around.
- Telling the right story is an art and is an important aspect of everything you do. Just doing the work is not enough in these times. Spend enough time to be able think & narrate the story.
- Me time/Thinking time: Don’t just get consumed in a 8-10 hour day work cycle. Find your thinking time which will help you continuously evolve your thought process. The solutions to your problems are best known to yourself.
Hope you find these useful & can correlate to the same.

Good one Ankur
Well written Ankur…thinking of career in long term is certainly a wise call. Not sure the current generation thinks too much of it though!
Congrats Mr. Ankur😊
