Excited to collaborate with Magna Carta College, UK, for this upcoming professional development workshop on Generative AI for Educators. We’ll explore how educators and researchers can use AI responsibly and creatively to enhance learning and scholarship.

🎃 When AI in Education Gets Spooky... It’s not the technology that’s most scary. It’s failing to adequately prepare students - and, even more importantly, our faculty and institutions - to use AI with wisdom and integrity. AI can generate essays, analyze data, design lectures, assess student work and much more. But what it can’t do - yet - is discern facts from noise or teach judgment, ethics or empathy. At Yorkville University, we believe today's prescient Higher Ed challenge is about fully owning our mantles as learning organizations. Our Signature Learning Outcomes framework was designed to develop adaptable, ethical and self-aware graduates who not only know how to use AI, but also how to thrive with integrity in an AI-driven world. I’m especially proud of the experimentation many of our faculty and staff are undertaking, informing their AI-enhanced practice in the classroom and contributing to SoTL research. Last week, I had the opportunity to present at George Mason University's Faculty Staff Enrichment Day on “Beyond the Buzz: Practical AI Strategies for Higher Ed Administrators.” It was a great conversation with colleagues who are genuinely interested in how AI can support the work we do every day. A few key points from the session: ✅ Students are overwhelmed by messaging and often miss important information — visibility is the real challenge. ✅ AI can help us provide more relevant, timely, and personalized communication that leads to action. ✅ Clear goals and structured prompting matter far more than the latest trendy tools. ✅ Human review and use of open source information remain essential for accuracy, accessibility, and ethical use. What I appreciated most was how engaged the group was — thoughtful questions, practical ideas, and a shared commitment to improving the student experience. It’s encouraging to be part of a university community exploring what’s next while staying grounded in what students actually need. Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. This platform gives students, faculty, and staff access to a specialized AI assistant that supports learning with features like "Learning Mode," which encourages critical thinking through interactive questions instead of just giving answers. Major institutions such as Northeastern University, the London School of Economics, and Champlain College have already adopted Claude campus-wide to enhance teaching, streamline administrative tasks, and prepare students for an AI-driven world. Anthropic aims to foster responsible AI use in academia while competing directly with OpenAI’s offerings and expanding AI fluency in higher education[4][9][1]. The Future of Education: From Knowledge to Consciousness Education is not only a right, it is the process through which humanity evolves. Yet today, in the age of Artificial Intelligence, we risk confusing the accumulation of information with true understanding. The education of the future can no longer be limited to transmitting content; it must develop awareness, critical thinking, and deep comprehension, the very qualities that distinguish the human mind from any algorithm. From AI to Agentic AI Traditional Artificial Intelligence processes data; Agentic AI begins to interact, reason, and act autonomously. It is no longer just a tool, it is a cognitive partner. In this new era, a gap still exists between those who create AI and those who use it, but awareness and education will progressively reduce it. It is not enough to use technology; we must understand its principles, its limits, and its ethical implications. This is why we cannot educate a new generation of students without first educating a new generation of teachers. It is the responsibility of institutions and public policy to guide this transition, fostering a culture of education centered on mind, technology, and consciousness. Schools as Cognitive Environments The schools of the future must become cognitive ecosystems, where students, teachers, and artificial systems collaborate to generate understanding, not just knowledge. Places where AI and AM&BS (Artificial Mind & Brain System) do not replace human intelligence, but amplify and integrate it. The AM&BS represents the next step: a network connecting the brain, the mind, artificial intelligence, and collective consciousness, transforming every educational institution into a living environment of learning and comprehension. From Mechanical to Conscious Education The education of the future must teach us to think, not just to respond; to understand, not just to compute; to cooperate, not just to compete. Because knowledge without awareness creates power, but knowledge with awareness creates evolution.
