Preparation is an act of respect. Respect for the client. Respect for the process. Respect for the work. The best coaches don’t just open Zoom and start talking. They take a few minutes to arrive grounded, focused, and ready to listen. It’s a small discipline that makes a massive difference in the quality of a coaching conversation. This is the kind of foundation we build inside the Confident Coach 4-week training at Certified Coaching Academy. As a coaching psychologist and former L&D lead, I care deeply about where our profession is heading. I don’t think the future of L&D is more content. It’s coaching and consultancy-led. It’s not to say that content and programmes should never run, they still matter but more focus should be on better conversations and thinking. Currently, one of my top questions for L&D is, how do we embed coaching as a core organisational capability? I’m really curious about how others are evolving their L&D approach. What are you doing differently for 2026?

Mikel Arteta perfectly outlines the thought process behind effective coaching. Your job is to figure out why is the player not executing. For example: - Are they not capable? - Do they have certain doubts about trying? - Do they not have enough clarity about why/how/when, etc? Your job is to deliver this. PS. If Mikel Arteta knows that too much tactical information can overload his professional players, who are ADULTS, what do you think that's doing to your youth players, who do not have fully developed brains?

Coaching 101, in its first season, features Powerful Questions That Create Breakthroughs. This episode examines the core competency that separates average coaches from transformational ones: the ability to ask incisive, well-timed, high-leverage questions. In professional coaching methodology, breakthrough moments are rarely produced by advice; they are catalyzed by inquiry. A strategically crafted question disrupts cognitive autopilot, surfaces assumptions, and challenges limiting narratives. Instead of telling clients what to do, effective coaches facilitate self-discovery through disciplined curiosity. https://lnkd.in/ecTPuKJx

When a client goes blank, changes the subject, or starts to fidget - they’re not disengaging. They’re approaching the edge of their comfort zone. In transformational coaching training, we teach coaches how to spot these subtle signals and create safe containers for exploring the unfamiliar. Because what looks like resistance is often the threshold of growth. And knowing how to coach at that threshold is a skill that defines true professionals.
