WAVE Consortium’s Post

🛰️💬 Modernizing the Ground: WAVE and DIFI Pave the Way Forward 💬🛰️ A big thank you to Matt Haber, representing the Department of War Chief Information Officer, for his insightful talk at Global MILSATCOM last week. His message was clear: modernization of the ground segment is critical — and WAVE and DIFI are central to that transformation. 1️⃣ 🌍 The Ground Must Evolve Haber emphasized that while the U.S. Space Force leads in space operations, the ground segment has lagged behind. Through WAVE and DIFI, DoD is rethinking teleport design—distributing assets regionally, virtualizing waveforms, and ensuring the ground can adapt as quickly as space evolves. 2️⃣ 💡 Digitization and Virtualization for Agility By leveraging DIFI’s standardized digital interfaces and WAVE’s virtualized waveform framework, the DoD is creating flexible, software-defined infrastructures that reduce physical footprint, increase resiliency, and make rapid reconfiguration possible in contested environments. 3️⃣ 🛰️ Commitment to the Future of SATCOM With leadership from Mike Dean and Paul Van Slet, the Department of Defense CIO is deeply committed to shaping and adopting WAVE standards. This work ensures multi-orbit, distributed, and secure ground networks that align with the next generation of SATCOM operations. The message is clear — the future of teleports and ground systems is software-defined, virtualized, and resilient. WAVE is how the ground keeps pace with space.
