🛰️💬 Modernizing the Ground: WAVE and DIFI Pave the Way Forward 💬🛰️ A big thank you to Matt Haber, representing the Department of War Chief Information Officer, for his insightful talk at Global MILSATCOM last week. His message was clear: modernization of the ground segment is critical — and WAVE and DIFI are central to that transformation. 1️⃣ 🌍 The Ground Must Evolve Haber emphasized that while the U.S. Space Force leads in space operations, the ground segment has lagged behind. Through WAVE and DIFI, DoD is rethinking teleport design—distributing assets regionally, virtualizing waveforms, and ensuring the ground can adapt as quickly as space evolves. 2️⃣ 💡 Digitization and Virtualization for Agility By leveraging DIFI’s standardized digital interfaces and WAVE’s virtualized waveform framework, the DoD is creating flexible, software-defined infrastructures that reduce physical footprint, increase resiliency, and make rapid reconfiguration possible in contested environments. 3️⃣ 🛰️ Commitment to the Future of SATCOM With leadership from Mike Dean and Paul Van Slet, the Department of Defense CIO is deeply committed to shaping and adopting WAVE standards. This work ensures multi-orbit, distributed, and secure ground networks that align with the next generation of SATCOM operations. The message is clear — the future of teleports and ground systems is software-defined, virtualized, and resilient. WAVE is how the ground keeps pace with space. Those who understand the true potential of quantum also understand the magnitude of the threat it carries. Last week in Istanbul, at NATO’s Innovation Continuum (SHINE), our team supported NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT)'s efforts to accelerate innovation across the Alliance – joining Allies, industry leaders, and researchers advancing the next generation of secure systems for a post-quantum world. As the only company building a full-stack silicon platform for secure compute, we demonstrated how quantum-safe communication and data sharing across independent networks can be embedded directly at the hardware layer – helping NATO explore more scalable, resilient, and quantum-ready architectures, alongside other innovations on display last week. Our VP of Security & Defense, Henry Gates, delivered a clear message: “Quantum is a today problem – our digital fragility is a risk we need to deal with now. We must embed security and scalability at the heart of our digital infrastructure – right in the silicon itself.” At Fortaegis, we believe sovereignty in the quantum era cannot rely on software alone. It must be structural – engineered into the foundation of compute. The conversations in Istanbul reinforced what we’ve always known: The future of deterrence will be decided not just by algorithms, but by the integrity of the silicon beneath them. We look forward to continuing to support ACT, NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency), and great partners like SMA-RTY to strengthen resilience for the West.
