Many people misunderstand what an OCI card actually allows in India. While OCI offers long-term visa-free travel and several benefits, it does not grant unrestricted access or full citizenship rights. Certain areas in India still require special permits for OCI cardholders. Activities like journalism, research, or missionary work may need prior approval. Applying for Indian citizenship also comes with specific eligibility conditions. Knowing the difference between myths and facts can help avoid confusion, legal issues, or unexpected restrictions. Always stay informed before planning travel or activities in India. #ocicard #NriPost #indianabroad #VisaRules #ImmigrationInfo #TravelSmart #KnowTheFacts

U.S. Consular Exchange Rate Revised The U.S. consular posts in India have revised the exchange rate from INR 94 to a USD to INR 96. This came into effect from April 1, 2026. This change does not affect any payment made prior to April 1, 2026. This change will affect the effective INR equivalent for both immigrant and non-immigrant visa application related fees. For some applicants, if the fee was paid on March 31, 2026 and the same is not updated on the consular system yet, they should reach out to the visa application centre for assistance in activating the same. The online system may show a deficit of the difference in the consular exchange rate. This update can be found in this link - https://lnkd.in/dzgtpwE.

A major shift in India’s consular services is now impacting the diaspora in Australia. From 1 April 2026, OCI applications can no longer be submitted by post — all applicants must attend VFS Global centres in person. Similar procedural changes are emerging across Canada, the UK and the United States. While the move aims to strengthen verification and reduce errors, it raises important questions around accessibility, cost, and equity — particularly for regional communities and vulnerable applicants.
