Looking forward to this read! 🤓📖🤗
Conventional wisdom says doctors don’t “get” business, but my research shows physicians outperform by 3x in building blockbuster healthcare startups. I compiled a list of the 100 most valuable healthcare companies founded in the US over the past 40 years (data linked in comments), including Doximity, Gilead, Intuitive Surgical, Oak Street, Regeneron, and more. 51 of the top 100 had at least one physician founder – despite only 17% of healthcare startups overall having a physician founder (data again linked in comments). In other words, physician-founded companies reached the top tier at 3x the expected rate – an outperformance of 200%. I haven't seen similar data anywhere else. Anyone else? Any idea why doctor-founded companies are so much more likely to become ultra-valuable? This is part of the research I did for my recently-published book Why Doctors Win: The Doctor's Guide to Creating or Joining a High-Impact Startup. https://a.co/d/08YvhUd1
