What happens when leading experts are put inside a live national security scenario? Last week, as part of National Security Week, Vanderbilt faculty stepped into the Arctic—through a first-of-its-kind tabletop exercise designed to test strategy, decision-making, and collaboration in real time. Academic Workshops Day brought together four interdisciplinary workshops and a capstone exercise focused on competition in the Arctic, giving subject matter experts the opportunity to engage directly with the complexities shaping modern conflict. This is how Vanderbilt is doing things differently—investing not only in students, but in faculty, to strengthen national security through education, collaboration, and applied problem-solving. ▶️ Watch the highlights below. #NationalSecurity #EmergingThreats #ArcticSecurity #HigherEducation #Cybersecurity #AI #Vanderbilt

The start of this paper came from our interest in exploring, learning, and collaborating together. The topic we chose focused on how voice cloning systems are affecting banks that use voice biometrics for authentication. It took us quite some time to build the replica system and test how voice cloning can bypass security authentication, which also helped us realize how many security vulnerabilities still exist today. Throughout this journey, we gained a lot of knowledge and hands-on experience while preparing this paper. A special thanks to Dr. Jayapandian N for his continuous support throughout the process. Whenever we had doubts or needed guidance, we would meet him, and he was always ready to share his insights and support us. And finally, thanks to my teammates for making this happen while still managing their own work and never giving up on this project.
I’m happy to share that our research paper, “Artificial Intelligence Based ECAPA-TDNN Voice Cloning,” has been officially published. Our work explores how modern AI-based voice cloning techniques can impact speaker verification systems and highlights important security vulnerabilities in voice-based authentication. This project gave me valuable exposure to research in AI, deep learning, and cybersecurity, while also strengthening my understanding of real-world authentication challenges. Grateful to my co-authors Akash N, Harshita N Reddy, Dr. Jayapandian N, Chirag B, and Anaswara Raghuthaman for their collaboration, and to Christ University, Bangalore for the support throughout this journey. 📄 The paper is now available on IEEE Xplore. University of Central Florida students repeatedly booed the commencement speaker when she described AI as the “next industrial revolution.” She later received cheers for noting that “only a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives.” The reaction highlights a widening divide: tech leaders view AI as a historic opportunity, while many students express uncertainty, disruption, and job anxiety. The event underscores that rapid technological advancement does not automatically translate into public acceptance. #CyberSecurity #ThreatIntelligence #InfoSec #SOC

🟧 It’s been around 8 months since our research paper was published in the 𝐐1 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 "𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐄", and looking back, one thing I realized is how much research teaches you beyond technical knowledge. Seeing our work become part of an internationally recognized publication was a proud and rewarding moment for our entire research team (Amila Nuwan Senarathne, Deemantha Nayanajith, Pawani Dananjana, Samesha Navodi, Jithmi A.) Our work focused on Machine learning based criminal behavior analysis for digital forensics, and the journey taught us the importance of patience, teamwork, critical thinking, and consistency. For anyone interested in Digital Forensics or Cybersecurity research, here are a few things I’d genuinely recommend: ✅ Start reading research papers early, even if you don’t understand everything at first. ✅ Choose a problem that is practical and meaningful, not just trending. ✅ Research takes time, experiments fail, models break, results change. That’s normal. ✅ Documentation and consistency matter more than last minute work. Most importantly, don’t underestimate your ideas. Small discussions can become internationally published work❗ As a research group from SLIIT, getting our work published internationally was something we’re truly proud of, and I hope more students step into the research side of cybersecurity and forensics. 👉 Read our publication here: https://lnkd.in/gDcpA8Nh #Digitalforensics #cybersecurity #machinelearning #AI #Cyberawareness #forensics #evidence #research
