CM has been quietly keeping complex systems under control since the 1950s - from missile programs to digital twins. My latest article for Baseline traces how CM evolved through the DoD standards, ISO frameworks, and the modern digital engineering era. If you’ve ever wondered why “configuration” is still in the spotlight 70 years later, this is why. The military has spent billions on enterprise resource planning systems in pursuit of integration and auditability. The result? Cost overruns. Delays. Frustrated users. Thirty years of failed audits. JJ Wilson writes about a better way forward in First Breakfast. http://bit.ly/3IWZodX

In the context of increasingly complex interoperability at both national and multinational levels, this comprehensive digital integration “from soldier to general” is certainly an interesting point of consideration for the 19 NATO land forces already equipped with the SitaWare HQ software. As part of the digital modernization of the German Army, the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) has recently signed an agreement with the Danish company Systematic, the developer of the command-and-control solution #SitaWare, used by NATO’s land forces and more than fifty countries worldwide. With SitaWare HQ dedicated to command posts and SitaWare Frontline designed for mounted combat, already in use by the German Army, SitaWare Edge becomes the third pillar of a fully integrated digital command-and-control system – from headquarters to vehicles, and now to dismounted troops. With Edge, every soldier is now connected, providing the entire force with access to a shared, real-time operational picture. Within a coalition operation, seamless and immediate interoperability at the level of command and control (C2) systems of participating nations and the sharing of information down to the lowest echelons are critical factors for success. SitaWare is part of the solution. https://lnkd.in/eVjcCzWT
