This week in coaching sessions, a really interesting question came up: “How do we grow the business without losing the values that made us successful in the first place?” It’s a dilemma many SME and family businesses face. Growth brings opportunities but it also brings risk. The risk of diluting the culture, losing the personal touch, or drifting away from the principles that built trust in the first place. The businesses that get this right don’t treat growth and legacy as opposites. They: ✅ Make their core values explicit, not just assumed. ✅ Build systems that protect those values at scale. ✅ Engage the next generation in deciding what must never be lost. When you do that, growth doesn’t erase your legacy, it amplifies it. Here’s a reflection worth sitting with: If your business doubled tomorrow, what traditions, practices, or values would you fight hardest to protect?

Updates to the ICF Core Competencies were released on Sept. 8, which will also inform changes to the Minimum Skills Requirements coming in October. Beginning in January, all evaluations will use the updated criteria. Additionally, starting Nov. 17, PCC and MCC candidates will have the option to take part in the Credentialing Exam Pilot. This new exam format reduces barriers, eases cognitive load, and better mirrors the real-world experience of coaching. Stop giving away free therapy disguised as business support. I see this all the time with coaches, consultants, and service providers: 👉 A client’s sales are dipping. 👉 Their operations are messy. 👉 Their strategy needs work. But instead of addressing the real business issues, they unload their frustrations on you. And because you care deeply about people, you start listening… supporting… almost becoming their “therapist.” Here’s the hard truth: 💡 Your clients are not paying you to hold all their emotional baggage. They’re paying you for your expertise — the skills, systems, and solutions that move their business forward. If you keep stepping into the role of “unpaid therapist,” not only do you dilute your value… you also train clients to undervalue your time. Instead, here’s what top coaches and business owners do: 1️⃣ Hold clear boundaries around the service you provide. 2️⃣ Redirect conversations back to measurable actions and outcomes. 3️⃣ Build in structured support containers (e.g., mindset coaching, resilience frameworks) only if they’re part of your paid offer. Because the truth is: business problems need business solutions.

A TEEN ATTENDING A BILATERAL SUMMIT BETWEEN 2 COUNTRIES?? yes that's what happened last Monday... As always not politically, but that's doesn't make the meeting less important or enriching, in fact it makes it ×∞+ important since it was with coach Steven Lin! He gave me invaluable advice during this meeting as an experienced business coach! Here's a recap: -AI can help with branding and marketing, like for pitch videos or promotional images. -Surrounding yourself by people who of course value and respect you, and MOST IMPORTANTLY have a GOOD influence on you, as you push each other up, and learn/progress as one! But I didn't just get on the meeting to get advice and leave, because when I do meetings I think the person's journey is often more interesting and eye-opening humanely than just trying to get value from the person on the technical side of things! Other recap on that: -There is this thing called a "value ladder" that he used to start off his journey as his own boss. Let me explain. You know how you have to go one by one on a ladder? It's the same with business, and offering a service such as business coaching, you've got to go STEP BY STEP until you reach your goal. But what do I mean by that? -PRICE: start of small, then get the prices up, maybe make them a bit more expensive for individual coaching, and so on. -LISTEN: get feedback, ask for suggestions on how the client would like you to help with their work. -OFFER VALUE: you have to genuinely love helping others, and have experience that you learned from and think could benefit others. He gave me more advice, for which I'm so grateful for considering he has 15+ years of experience helping founders and leaders cut through the noise, simplify their operations, and move forward with clarity and confidence. You just launched your new coaching business and your services page lists discovery calls, a 6-week program, a 3-month container, VIP days, a group program, and a mini-course you’re building. You think this makes you look professional and gives clients options. It’s actually killing your business before it starts. When someone lands on your page, they don’t know which option to pick. They don’t understand the difference between your programs. They leave without booking anything because the decision feels too complicated. They also don’t really know who you are just yet and what you’re known for. You’re also making your own life harder. Every social media post has to promote something different. You can’t get good at delivering one thing because you’re trying to deliver seven things. You spend more time managing your offers than actually coaching clients. Here’s what works better when you’re new: pick one service and get really good at it. One package. One price. One clear outcome. That’s it. You can always add more later, but right now, you need to book clients and build your skills. You can’t do that while juggling ten different offers. Simple sells. Complicated confuses.
