My mother is obese. My dad is hypertensive. My dad's dad has cancer. My dad's mom is hypertensive. My mom's parents are diabetic. But I won bodybuilding shows & became a fitness coach. Here are 7 ways to break your family's generational health curse: 1. Stop accepting "it runs in the family" Your genes load the gun. Your lifestyle pulls the trigger. • Obesity • Alzheimer's • Most cancers • Heart disease • Type 2 diabetes Are preventable through how you live. Genetics are only 10-30% of the equation. 2. Eat real food, not food products Your great-grandparents didn't have: • Processed seed oils • High fructose corn syrup • 10,000 FDA-approved chemicals They had real food. My staples: • Wild-caught fish • Grass-fed beef & eggs • Vegetables that grew in dirt • Fruits without ingredient lists 3. Move your body consistently Find something you can do for 10 years: I only train 2-3x/week because that's what works for my goals & lifestyle. • Lifting weights • Playing sports • Walking • Boxing Movement is medicine. 4. Sleep like your life depends on it Because it does. 7+ hours of quality sleep: • Strengthens immune system • Repairs cellular damage • Balances hormones • Prevents dementia My non-negotiables: • No screens 1 hour before bed • Same sleep/wake times daily • No caffeine after noon • Dark, cold room 5. Quit poisoning yourself Smoking & vaping are obvious. But alcohol? That's where people get defensive. It: • Disrupts sleep • Increases estrogen • Feeds inflammation Your ancestors didn't drink daily. Neither should you. 6. Build real connections We're more connected than ever but lonelier than ever. Chronic loneliness increases death risk by 50%. Same as smoking 15 cigarettes daily. My suggestions: • Train with others • Call family regularly • Have real conversations • Make an effort to socialize in real life 7. Maintain a healthy body composition Fat tissue produces inflammatory chemicals that: • Increase cancer risk • Disrupt hormones • Accelerate aging • Damage organs The solution is simple: • Prioritize protein • Eat in a calorie deficit • Lift weights 2-3x per week Your family history is information, not destiny. I broke the cycle by refusing to accept "that's just how we are." You can too. Have any questions? Drop them below. & if you enjoyed this… Follow me for more content like this.
Great photo But we don’t need more lists We need help with post pandemic issues Ones every single one of us are experiencing

This is such a powerful post. It highlights what so many people forget: genetics aren’t a life sentence—they’re a warning sign. I’ve seen clients break generational curses not by doing extreme diets or spending hours in the gym, but by sticking to foundational principles like eating animal-based, nutrient-dense foods, prioritizing sleep, and strength training a few times per week. Real transformation starts when you stop outsourcing your health to your DNA and start owning your daily choices.
Obesity, omega ratio and endocannabinoids... the body's own THC is anandamide as discussed in the research below ... balancing omega ratio is key so the body can make cannabis like fats, omega-6s are more sticky and stick around in tissues whereas omega-3s are more fluid... from a balance of the two endocannabinoids are produced to balance the body and regulate inflammation, obesity, cancer and much more... "Cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells but do not affect their nontransformed counterparts and may even protect them from cell death. " -National Cancer Institute https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/hp/cannabis-pdq#
This is a powerful post, and I deeply agree with the core message: our biology is not our destiny, but we do have to live differently to break the cycle. I’d just add a few nuances, especially for women: ➡️ Female hormones, especially during perimenopause and menopause, influence fat distribution, metabolism, and muscle retention. ➡️ Unidentified food sensitivities can trigger inflammation that disrupts gut health, hormones, and weight regulation. ➡️ And stress—especially chronic, high-functioning stress—can dysregulate the nervous system and drive cortisol imbalances that make sustainable fat loss challenging. Body composition is a result of so much more than calories in, calories out, especially for women navigating hormonal shifts. Still, the takeaway stands strong: we have far more power than we’ve been taught. Grateful for the message you’re spreading and great post!
Absolutely Warren English, well said! It’s incredible how much power we hold to influence our genetic expression through intentional daily choices. The field of epigenetics is showing us what ancient wisdom has long affirmed and what I tell my clients : "we're not victims of our DNA but active participants in how it expresses itself." What we eat, how we move, how we think, and even how we believe—these aren’t just habits; they’re genetic switches. Nutrient-dense foods, movement, restorative sleep, and a mindset rooted in faith and hope can all downregulate genes linked to inflammation and disease while upregulating those that promote healing, longevity, and vitality. We were designed for renewal, not decline. The real breakthrough is understanding that every small, aligned choice sends a message to our cells about the future we are creating. Keep up the amazing work!! 💪 -M
Small daily choices make the biggest impact on breaking these patterns!

This is all excellent advice and I don't want to detract from it at all. I just want to say that genetics are still powerful, and that if chronic disease runs in your family, you should still get regular checkups and tests that track the relevant metabolic and genetic markers. There are extremely fit and active people who still need blood pressure medicine. There are healthy athletes who drop dead at a young age from heart disease. Healthy lifestyle should 100% lead the way, but we need to make sure we still take advantage of the benefits of modern medicine and medical science.
