🚗🤖 Waymo introduces its new simulation system for autonomous vehicles 🌍✨ Waymo takes a giant step forward in autonomous driving development with the launch of its Waymo World Model, a next-generation simulation system powered by Genie 3. Unlike traditional approaches—which train models solely on real-world, on-road data—this system leverages a much broader understanding of the world. Thanks to its pre-training on a massive and diverse set of videos, Genie 3 enables the simulation of situations that were never directly observed by the real-world fleet, including rare and long-tail scenarios that are critical for the safety and robustness of autonomous systems. 🔍 What makes it different? Knowledge transfer from 2D video to 3D LiDAR outputs, tailored to Waymo’s specific hardware. A combination of cameras (visual detail) and LiDAR (precise depth and geometry). The ability to generate almost any scene, from everyday driving to rare, extreme events. This breakthrough redefines how autonomous driving systems are trained and validated, accelerating innovation and raising safety standards across the industry. 🚀 The future of autonomous simulation is already here—and it’s powered by Waymo. https://lnkd.in/eK63bh6A Video © Waymo. Waymo is launching its most advanced autonomous driving system, the 6th-generation Waymo Driver, aimed at handling more complex road conditions and accelerating large-scale AV deployment. Built on 200 million autonomous miles across 10+ cities, the system features 13 cameras (down from 29), 4 lidars, 6 radars—42% sensor reduction with superior performance. Through advancements in vision systems and external audio receivers (EARs), the system now "operates at a level superior to human eyes and ears," capable of detecting emergency vehicle sirens and pulling "critical details out of deep shadows" even when blinded by high beams. The rollout coincides with a major manufacturing shift at Waymo’s AV factory in Phoenix, designed to enable “meaningful” scale toward producing tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles per year, a key step toward commercial expansion. #Waymo #GOOG #GOOGL #Google #Alphabet #AutonomousVehicles #SelfDrivingCars #ArtificialIntelligence #Robotaxi #AI #TechInvesting #MobilityTech #FutureOfTransport #TechNews #InvestingNews #AutoTech $GOOG $GOOGL

New from me: The first in a two-part S&P Global Market Intelligence series on autonomous vehicle tech and the regulatory frameworks that have been proposed to govern it: In Part 1, we lay out the Self Drive Act's key provisions and the debate over self-certification vs. independent third-party testing. I spoke with Imagry | Autonomous Driving CEO Eran Ofir and Nexar Inc. CBO Jon Miller about the industry's perspective on safety standards, and whether the technology is ready to hit the road. https://lnkd.in/eu7twZkB In Part 2, we take a closer look at the competing architectural approaches of Tesla and Waymo and what's actually fueling the competition between AV makers, with insights from Steve Wang, Esq. of Caldwell. https://lnkd.in/eQaTh8KS

Waymo just launched a generative 3D world model to train self-driving cars. Not for entertainment, for survival 🚨 Autonomous vehicles need to learn how to handle scenarios that rarely happen in real life but could kill someone if handled wrong. Edge cases. Weird intersections. Kids chasing balls into streets. You can't wait for these situations to occur naturally during training drives. So Waymo builds them in 3D instead. Generates thousands of driving scenarios in simulated worlds. This is the same pipeline game developers use to create environments, but the stakes are completely different. #3D #autonomousvehicles
