The goal of the US-imposed blockade on Iran is to suffocate its economy to the brink of collapse, giving Washington the upper hand in peace talks. But one thing they can't control is the Caspian Sea. The Caspian is a perfect place to evade sanctions and serves as a gateway for Russia and China to provide aid of any kind to Iran.

Everyone keeps asking when Hormuz reopens. This week gave us a pretty clear answer. US-Iran talks collapsed. Iran demanded war reparations, full Strait sovereignty, and an end to all sanctions. Netanyahu said there's "more work to be done." Meanwhile a bulk vessel was struck 23nm northeast of Doha (nowhere near Hormuz, deep inside the Gulf). and 53 ships are still stuck in there, 81% unmoved for two months. I've been sending weekly market updates through all of this to a select few. The framing has shifted from "monitor the situation" to "build contingency plans". The importers navigating this best aren't waiting for good news. They're already putting strategies in place.
