Two Stanford University students have raised US$2 million to launch Breakthrough Ventures, a new accelerator programme designed to fund and support startups founded by college students and recent graduates across the United States. The accelerator was founded by Roman Scott and Itbaan Nafi , who began building the programme after organising a series of well-attended Demo Days at Stanford in 2024. “Breakthrough’s purpose is to fill in the funding and opportunity gap that exists in many of these ecosystems because students have historically lacked access to capital and the networks required to launch their entrepreneurial pursuits,” Scott added. “We hope that by supporting young entrepreneurs, we’re able to uplift as many stories as possible to then inspire many more across the world to use the tools and knowledge around them to pursue entrepreneurship not only to change their communities, but also gain economic stability for themselves and their families,” Nafi said. Quadri Adejumo of Techparley details how Stanford-founded Breakthrough Ventures is backing the next generation of student entrepreneurs. https://lnkd.in/gb9ArHDV #techtrends #instagood #fyi #trending #techparley

𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 $𝟮𝗠 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗖𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁. Roman Scott and Itbaan Nafi watched talented student founders get turned away not because their ideas were bad, but because they lacked a degree, a track record, or $10K MRR. So they built Breakthrough Ventures. An accelerator designed for student founders, by student founders. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: • $100K grants • Compute credits • Legal support • Mentorship • Follow-on investment 𝗡𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱. What strikes me most isn't the funding. It's the diagnosis. We've been running a system that mistakes polish for potential and in doing so, we've been leaving an entire generation of builders at the door. 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 and 𝗜𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗮𝗻 are betting on the unfundable. The over-motivated, under-resourced founder who's still figuring it out in a dorm room at 2am. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: The gap between a "dorm room idea" and an "investable business" has never been thinner. But thin doesn't mean easy. Student founders don't need a 40-page business plan. They need distribution, credibility, and the right room to walk into. Breakthrough Ventures is trying to become that room. The real question is how many other Roman and Itbaans are out there, still waiting for someone to bet on them? #Startups #StudentFounders #Entrepreneurship #VentureCapital #Innovation #NextGenFounders #StartupAccelerator #BuildInPublic #Founders #TechStartups
