This morning, Microsoft Australia and the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) announced a landmark Framework Agreement that puts workers’ voices and skilling at the centre of Australia’s AI transformation. AI is reshaping our economy at extraordinary pace. Done right, it can unlock new productivity, strengthen industries and create better jobs – representing a $115 billion opportunity for Australia by 2030. But that only happens when workers have the skills, confidence and voice to help shape how AI is used. Together with the ACTU, we’re committing to: 🔹 Share practical AI learning with union leaders and workers through formal training and resources 🔹 Create new channels for worker input into how AI tools are designed and deployed 🔹 Collaborate on responsible AI policy and skills, ensuring workers are ready for the jobs of the future This is the first agreement of its kind in Australia and builds on the Government’s new National AI Plan. It also aligns with our ongoing work to ensure AI adoption is responsible, inclusive and grounded in real workplace experience. We’re proud to take this step with the ACTU. This is about making sure every worker has a place in Australia’s AI‑powered future – and ensuring the benefits of this technology are shared widely and fairly. What challenges do you anticipate in implementing this worker-centered approach?
Great to see efforts in planning for a world with "People + Machines" and not just efforts to be the first to make the machines to replace all people. 🙌
Great to see Microsoft Australia and the ACTU prioritizing worker voices and skills in the AI transformation. This proactive approach will be crucial for a successful and equitable AI future.
Well done Steven Miller Kate Seward and John Galligan and the team for this thoughtful approach to ensuring skilling and people are always first. Well done!
Thank you Steven Miller for your leadership and support to drive an important engagement with a key constituent in enabling the diffusion of AI skills to more Australians. Thank you Kate Seward,John Galligan, Liz Fitch and our very own Tim Allen for enabling a key milestone for our work!
Exciting times ahead for workers in the AI landscape! 😊
Well done Joseph Mitchell. A great achievement. And fair play to Microsoft.
Great to see Steven Miller and the ANZ team
Nice work Steven Miller. Microsoft always leading the industry in ensuring the wealth divide between capital and labour doesn’t widen further.
Umm, Minister not for the ‘Evironment’… nothing about globally significant fires and floods..? 4000sqkm burned in Catastrophic fires. Floods across. Honestly. Do better pls. AI will help the event mapping and prediction. It won’t help policy.
