🔄 Preparing for Your Upcoming VMware Renewal? Here's What You Need to Know Since Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, the licensing landscape has shifted dramatically. If you're facing a renewal and considering a move to a VMware reseller, strategic preparation is essential. Key Steps to Take Now: 📊 Audit Your Current Environment Document your existing VMware footprint—licenses, support agreements, and actual usage. Understanding what you have versus what you need is critical for negotiations. 💰 Analyze Your Total Cost of Ownership Beyond license costs, factor in support, professional services, and potential bundle requirements. The new subscription models may impact your budget differently than perpetual licensing. 🎯 Define Your Requirements Identify must-have features versus nice-to-haves. This clarity helps you evaluate which bundles or SKUs actually align with your business needs. 🤝 Evaluate Reseller Partners Carefully Not all resellers offer the same value. Look for partners with: Deep VMware technical expertise Proven negotiation capabilities Strong relationship with Broadcom Additional managed services if needed ⏰ Start Early Don't wait until 60 days before renewal. Beginning conversations 6-9 months out gives you leverage and options. 📋 Get Everything in Writing Pricing, terms, support SLAs, and transition timelines should be clearly documented before you commit. The VMware ecosystem is evolving, but with the right preparation and partner, you can navigate this transition successfully and potentially optimize your investment. What strategies have worked for you in this new landscape? #VMware #Broadcom #ITInfrastructure #CloudComputing #Virtualization #ITStrategy

All-star channel partner Sentinel Technologies CTO Robert Keblusek deeps dive into the pros 👍 & cons 👎of VMware by Broadcom’s partner strategy and how customers are responding to all of VMware’s changes: “Customers definitely are exploring options—no doubt about it. I’d say almost across our entire customer base, up to the enterprise and all the way down, they start to talk about, ‘Well, what are my options here? Because my price to move to VCF is 2X or 3X what I was expecting and budgeted. So what do I need to do?’” said CTO Keblusek. “It depends on where they’re at in their own business transformation as to which direction they ultimately choose. But by and large, all our customers, they want to renew VMware,” he said. “They want to keep #VMware. They ultimately either want to renew it or double down.” 🙌 Fantastic VMware - #Broadcom insight from partner innovator Sentinel and its longtime CTO: https://lnkd.in/e4E8HiRZ

🚨 VMware Customers: It’s Time to Reassess Your Strategy 🚨 Since Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, the landscape has shifted...dramatically. Licensing models have changed, product bundling is evolving, and many organizations are facing unexpected cost increases or reduced flexibility. If your business relies on VMware, here’s why you should act now: 🔍 Licensing Overhaul: Broadcom has retired perpetual licenses and moved to subscription-only models. This impacts budgeting, renewals, and long-term planning. 📦 Product Consolidation: Some standalone VMware products have been bundled or discontinued. You may be paying for features you don’t need—or losing access to ones you do. 💸 Cost Implications: Many customers are reporting significant price hikes. If you haven’t reviewed your VMware contracts, you might be in for a surprise. 🧭 Strategic Opportunity: This is a prime moment to evaluate alternatives, optimize your infrastructure, and future-proof your virtualization strategy. ✅ What You Can Do: Audit your current VMware usage and licensing Engage with your vendor or reseller to understand the new terms Explore hybrid or multi-cloud options Consider open-source or alternative virtualization platforms The Broadcom-VMware shift isn’t just a licensing change—it’s a strategic inflection point. Companies that act now will be better positioned to control costs, reduce risk, and stay agile. #VMware #Broadcom #ITStrategy #CloudComputing #Virtualization #CIO #TechLeadership #Infrastructure

Unfortunately, no interstate event update this time, but let’s talk about a topic gaining more and more traction lately… Hypervisors! We’ve all seen how the “Broadcom event” has shaken things up over the last year. As hardware refreshes roll around and those “stop-gap” vSphere renewals from earlier this year come due, one big question keeps popping up: 🤔 Do we need to move to a new hypervisor, and if so, which one? That's probably two questions, but you get my point. I don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all answer anymore, but here are my two cents on some of the main options we’ve been looking at (not that anyone asked 😅): 🪟 Hyper-V - Nothing fancy, you know what you’re getting. Not the smoothest to set up, but rock solid once it’s running. 🟠 Proxmox - (Can be) free, open source, and super customisable. Incredibly easy to deploy, though the main drawback is the lack of true enterprise-grade support. ✖️ Nutanix AHV - Excellent vendor support, and Prism makes it an absolute breeze to maintain, but hyper-converged isn’t for everyone. Keep an eye on their third-party storage integrations - there’s some cool stuff happening there. 🐧 Red Hat OpenShift - Powerful. Very powerful. Great vendor backing and a great opportunity to modernise workloads and introduce on-prem containers during a hardware refresh. A different kettle of fish though - I don’t have much hands-on experience here yet, but now that we’re part of the Atturra Managed Services family, I’ve got some great people to learn from (and put you in touch with!). 🟢 HPE VM Essentials - Still early days, but looks promising. Lots of potential with Morpheus, and Veeam support is on the way. One to keep an eye on, especially with HPE behind it. ✌️ VMware - Old faithful. It works. We all know it inside out. The new pricing hurts, but if you can make it work - and leverage some of the features Broadcom has “kindly” bundled in - I don’t blame you one bit. 💡 Honourable mention: A local option worth watching - Neon Dynamics Net Frame. Brings a lot of that familiar VMware feel, minus the price tag. Definitely one I’m keeping tabs on. Something I’ve seen fly under the radar in all these conversations is the migration itself. We’ve been spoiled by how seamless VMware upgrades have been (thanks, Veeam Software Replication 🙏). But things like your current compute/storage utilisation, outage windows, and where you sit in your hardware + software lifecycle all play a huge part in the right choice. Always happy to chat about this stuff and see if myself, or someone from BC and/or Atturra, can help guide you down the right path for you and your business. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
