Last week’s announcement of the partnership between Oracle and AWS is very welcome, exciting, and marks a shift in the cloud computing landscape. This collaboration allows Oracle databases to run on AWS infrastructure, reflecting customer demand and the growing trend toward multi-cloud environments. This is great news for our customers (old and new), and it’s simple in terms of the benefits both for customers and the 2 vendors: ✅ From Oracle's standpoint, the partnership extends the reach of its database products, allowing them to access Oracle's database services without migrating to OCI. ✅ For AWS, this partnership offers customers greater flexibility, recognizing the importance of supporting hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This approach aligns with the preference of many organizations for multi-cloud strategies, which help avoid vendor lock-in and leverage different platforms' strengths. Enabling Oracle databases on AWS demonstrates both vendors focus on meeting customer needs. This collaboration also reflects broader industry trends, where no single cloud provider can meet all enterprise needs, particularly for large organisations with complex systems, where flexibility and multi-cloud solutions are increasingly important. As always, the devil is in the details but on the face of it, both companies, but more importantly the end users/customers, will benefit greatly from this partnership.
