Carlsberg India will invest ₹1,250 crore over the next three years to expand its manufacturing footprint across states including Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Karnataka. The investment includes:   • ₹500 crore for a new greenfield brewery in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra   • ₹400 crore for brownfield expansion of its existing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal   • ₹350 crore for expansion at its facility in Mysuru, Karnataka (an expansion already announced earlier) Carlsberg India expects that over the next three years it will procure ₹600 crore worth of raw & packaging materials (malt, glass, cans, cardboard, transport) as part of this expansion. The company said these projects will help:   • Expand operational capacity   • Create employment opportunities   • Generate excise revenues for the states Carlsberg described India as a priority growth market for its global operations. In India’s beer market context:   • Global brewers see strong opportunity due to demographic tailwinds and rising affluence.   • The beer-drinking population is estimated at about 140 million people.   • About 20 million people enter the legal drinking age group each year in India. Bira Story so far Ankur Jain the founder of Bira 91 traveled to Belgium, one of the world’s beer capitals, and started brewing—crafting something nobody else was offering in India during 2015. Bira’s smooth, flavourful, and fun beer quickly won over urban India. It wasn’t just a drink, it was a statement. Early success saw Bira’s production shift to India, and big-name investors poured nearly $450 million into the company. But when you grow fast, challenges move even faster. A simple name change—needed to comply with shareholder limits—unleashed a six-month licensing nightmare, stalling sales in key states (Delhi & Andhra Pradesh accounting for approximately 40 to 50 % of revenue) and dragging the business down. Sales and revenues slumped; Rising competition and changing consumer habits made survival tougher. Liabilities increase more than asset. Big investors withdrew there money making a financial crunch. Basically the root cause is regulatory compliance regarding a Beer company stalled the sales and in beer industry customers quickly moved to other brands.
