Power Apps Tip: Stop Killing Your App’s Performance! Ever seen a Power App that loads fast during testing but crawls once 50+ users start using it? That’s not bad luck — it’s usually bad design. Here’s a real-world scenario that exposed 5 hidden performance killers 1. Too many global variables (Set) A complex app had 20+ global variables across screens, causing memory overload. Replaced them with context variables (UpdateContext) for screen-specific logic and minimal collections. Result: 30% faster screen transitions. 2. Heavy data calls in App.OnStart 10,000+ SharePoint records were loading at startup, freezing the splash screen. Shifted to a lazy loading strategy — fetching data only when users navigated to relevant screens. Startup time dropped from 8 seconds to 2 seconds. 3. Nested loops with ForAll + Patch Each record was being patched individually — hundreds of API calls. Rebuilt logic using Collect() + one Patch() and Concurrent() for parallel processing. Submission time improved by 60%. 4. Inefficient galleries A gallery filtered and sorted a massive dataset directly in its formula. Pre-filtered data into a collection and bound the gallery to it. Scrolling became smooth and lag-free. 5. Ignoring delegation warnings ⚠️ Non-delegable formulas were silently truncating data. Switched to delegable functions like Filter, SortByColumns, and LookUp with supported connectors. Full dataset loaded efficiently — no missing records, no lag. 💬 Pro Tip: Always test apps in Monitor mode before publishing. It exposes hidden data calls, delegation issues, and performance bottlenecks in seconds. The Outlook app lets you track messages/appointments to the right records right from my inbox. 𝟮) 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Beyond the add-in, Dataverse can talk to Exchange directly. You can send/receive emails from inside your app without burning Flow runs or juggling shared mailboxes. 𝟯) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁-𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 If you're model-driven app is slow, this one's for you. 𝟰) 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 (𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗨𝗜) When you create a related record (e.g., Contact from Account), Dataverse can prefill fields like address - no flow, no code. 𝟱) 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘂𝗽𝘀 Think about the “Customer” column type for your own tables.
