Forty-three years.... It’s a slightly ridiculous number to say out loud, especially while standing on the same University of Exeter steps I first remember climbing as a three-year-old. My father was a lecturer in #CivilEngineering here, so this campus was my playground long before it was my workplace. Since then, the "golden thread" of #Exeter has woven through my life in ways I never could have predicted. I’ve seen this place from every possible angle: as a kid in the faculty offices, a student with a summer job pulling pints and working the catering bars, a researcher, a KTP at the Centre for Water Systems, and a guest lecturer. Coming back this week as an Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor to help assess project and innovation pitches felt like a massive full-circle moment. Looking at the room yesterday, I have high hopes that the students of today are brilliant engineers, entrepreneurs, and absolutely full of enthusiasm! #UniversityOfExeter #Engineering #Innovation #RAEng #HigherEducation #Mentorship #CareerJourney #ExeterUni

2dBrilliant post Sally Walters! I’ve been marching up and down those steps for over 32 years now, practically enough to wear a groove into them. So many memories tied to that place… and let’s be honest, you’re pretty much part of the Harrison building’s DNA at this point too. Interestingly enough, I also have something to say about the number 43 - it's been that many years since I graduated with my undergraduate Civil Engineering degree! Scary! 😊
