🔊 Audio Specialists, Stop Working for Less 🔊 This one’s for the sound engineers, music producers, voice designers, mix-masters, and everyone who lives behind the faders and frequencies. Too many of us are saying yes to projects that don’t pay even a fraction of what our skills are worth. Why? Because the market is crowded. Because clients promise "exposure." Because we’re afraid to lose work. But here’s the truth: working below your value doesn’t help you — and it hurts the industry. 🎛️ Behind every 60-second jingle or clean VO track are: Years of learning Expensive gear Countless revisions Sleepless nights Creative instincts that no AI can replicate When you charge ₹2,000 for work worth ₹10,000, you're not just underpaid — you set a low standard for everyone else. 💬 Instead, try saying: > “Thanks for considering me. For this scope, my standard fee is ₹XX.” “I’d love to collaborate — let’s find a budget that respects the work involved.” 🎯 The right clients will stay. The wrong ones will move on (and that’s okay). Let’s stop begging for respect and start commanding it through our professionalism, clarity, and refusal to settle. 👉 Say no to underpricing. Say yes to your value. We don’t just deliver audio. We deliver impact. #AudioIndustry #SoundEngineers #MusicProducers #FreelanceLife #PayArtistsFairly #LinkedInAudio #RespectTheCraft
Thanks for sharing, Sagar. I genuinely appreciate you putting your thoughts forward. This is what we are witnessing in vfx industry too, applied to the whole artist community... I will not sugarcoat it, what we’re witnessing today is a widespread collapse of professional standards in our industry. A large number of artists are accepting dirt-cheap rates, and the worst part is they justify it with personal excuses “I needed the work,” “It’s just temporary,” or “I had no choice.” Let’s be blunt: these are not just personal compromises they are acts of collective betrayal. By working for such disgracefully low pay, they are dragging down the value of everyone’s work. They’re not just settling; they’re setting a dangerous precedent, sending the message that our time, skill, and effort are disposable. This behavior is dishonest not only to themselves but to the entire artist community. It sabotages fair competition, destroys market standards, and benefits only those looking to exploit desperate talent. These choices disrupt the price ecosystem entirely, leaving serious professionals to suffer while mediocrity and exploitation thrive. If we don't start holding the line, the industry won’t need to break us we’ll do it to ourselves.
Well said Sagar 👏🏻👏🏻
Well put, Sagar
This is a much-needed message for the industry! I strongly feel there should be an official body or association that sets the minimum pay standards for Audio Engineers. Having a standard rate not only ensures fair compensation for everyone’s skill and effort, but also protects the overall value of our profession. No one should be allowed to charge below that minimum, so we don’t end up undervaluing ourselves and the work of our peers. A collective approach would benefit both current and future professionals in the field. It’s time we look out for each other and uphold the standards our craft deserves!
That's true
