The Digital Education Council AI in Higher Education Latin America Survey 2026 has been published! With over 30,000 responses, including 22,941 from students and 7,319 from faculty, across 29 higher education institutions in Latin America, it is the largest regional survey of its kind. AI adoption is accelerating among both students and faculty, highlighting the growing importance of AI literacy, while concerns remain about its potential impact on learning. These are some student perspectives that stand out: 📌 68% feel positive about AI in education, yet 65% worry it could lead to shallow learning and reduced critical thinking 📌 Over half struggle to critically evaluate AI outputs, and 50% can’t yet apply AI meaningfully to their field of study 📌 56% question the fairness of AI-based assessment, and 61% fear misuse by peers could undermine academic integrity 📌 63% want a voice in AI decisions, but only 34% feel institutions truly listen In alignment with results from previous studies, students are clearly calling for stronger AI literacy support, clearer guidelines, and genuine inclusion in decision-making. I’m delighted to share that we held our first workshop, “AI Skills for Inclusive Classrooms”, led by the interdisciplinary Strathclyde Centre for Doctoral Training “Human-centred AI Technologies for Inclusion in Education and Society”, and supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)Talents and Skills funding. This interactive workshop was designed to support educators in critically and responsibly implementing AI technologies to facilitate inclusive education. Participants had the opportunity to work directly with AI scientists and inclusion experts, explore the latest developments in AI, and consider their implications for inclusive classroom practice. Through hands-on demonstrations, collaborative discussions, and creative activities, the workshop created space for educators to: 1. Share lived classroom experiences 2. Raise questions and concerns about AI 3. Reflect critically on ethical and inclusive practice contributing to shaping the future direction of human-centred AI technologies at Strathclyde. Participants’ insights will directly inform the development of a free resource pack for educational professionals, ensuring that teacher voice remains central to AI innovation in education. A heartfelt thank you to my main supervisor, Dr Yuchen Wang, for her guidance, leadership, and continued support throughout this journey.
