RightRev Integrates with Stripe Billing for Scalable Revenue Recognition

Just wrapped Stripe Sessions. I'm exhausted and excited!  I had the chance to speak on dispute strategy, co-facilitate town halls on agentic commerce and cross-border payments, work alongside the training and certification team in the hands-on work room, and spend time at the retail booth. Every piece of it felt meaningful. But what I keep coming back to is the conversations. Meeting users at every stage. The ones just getting started, the ones scaling fast, the ones who showed up with hard questions and left with new ones. There's something that happens when someone realizes Stripe isn't just infrastructure, it's a place to actually think about what they want to build and start doing it. That excitement is real. The problems are real too, and honestly, that's part of what makes it energizing. Watching new people lean in, engage, push on ideas. That's the whole thing. Plus 288 new products dropped. Workflows is GA. Console lets you query your entire Stripe account in plain language from the Dashboard. Custom Objects means your business logic actually lives in Stripe now, not around it. And Stripe Database spins up a real-time Postgres instance in one click. Cool week to be a builder! There's real work still ahead. But this week made it feel worth it. 

Stripe announced two new products at Sessions a couple weeks ago (already 😅 ) that are worth paying attention to if you run payments on a vertical SaaS platform. A Platform Dashboard with AI-powered optimization recommendations based on interchange, margin, peer benchmarking. And a Copilot agent that investigates issues and proposes fixes directly in the dashboard. Now don’t get me wrong they are very cool, but they are Stripe-native. That second part matters more than it might seem. A dashboard that benchmarks your performance against other Stripe platforms tells you how you're doing relative to peers. That's useful. What it can't tell you is whether what you're paying in fees actually reflects your negotiated contract, or whether your interchange cost structure is optimal given your merchant mix and transaction types. That requires transaction-level data that lives outside any single processor's view. Stripe building this tooling isn't a threat to the payment intelligence category. It's another clear signal that the market has decided this problem is worth solving at scale. Tell me how you're running your payment intelligence in the comments.

Today I want to talk about something we don’t discuss enough: implementation. When I sit in front of a prospect, the first question I always get is: “What makes Stripe different from your competitors?” There are many answers. Yes, the platform matters. Stripe is built not just for today, but for the next five years and beyond. The level of investment in the product roadmap is unmatched, and that matters when you’re choosing infrastructure that will shape your business long term. But the truth is, I usually start somewhere else: ease of integration. Developers love Stripe. And that’s not an accident. Clean APIs, best-in-class documentation, and behind it a ProServ team whose mission is simple: help you go live fast and get it right the first time. Last week, one of my strategic accounts activated the full Stripe platform in two weeks. Not two months. Two weeks. This is why I always bring the conversation back to TCO. The cheapest solution on paper is rarely the cheapest in reality. What really matters is integration complexity, developer time, delays, and the cost of getting it wrong. Price is what you pay. TCO is what it actually costs. Choose wisely.

Unpopular opinion: Stripe is the biggest risk to your scaling subscription brand. Not because it doesn't work. Because when it stops working, you have no alternative wired in. Single-processor stacks fail in three ways: 1. Your category gets reclassified, MCC code shifts, decline rate doubles overnight 2. A regional issue takes down auth and you watch your dunning queue back up 3. You hit volume tiers, fees compound, but you can't migrate without re-platforming The fix isn't to ditch Stripe. The fix is to never depend on one processor at all. Multi-processor in parallel: Stripe + Checkout+ Airwallex routing per-region, per-card-type, per-flow. If your processor is also your single point of failure, you don't have a stack. You have a hostage situation.

So much learned from Stripe Sessions this year. My biggest takeaway was that we’re moving from human-driven interactions to machine-to-machine economies and this has huge implications for how we build products, pricing, infrastructure, and even trust. If you’re building anything today, this isn’t a trend to watch, it’s a shift to design for. Curious how others are thinking about agentic commerce and realtime payments.

Unforgettable lessons after watching AI businesses get shut down by Stripe: • "Ask anything" is the single fastest way to get rejected or terminated • A 25% monthly growth spike can freeze your account — even with clean revenue • Stripe is an aggregator, not a partner — they owe you no warning • A dedicated merchant account reviewed upfront is far safer at scale than Stripe Learning these changed everything about how I build payment infrastructure.

The extensibility announcements are worth paying close attention to if you're in the middle of — or approaching — a billing implementation. Custom Objects and Billing Script improvements change what's configurable without custom development. For complex AR use cases especially, that's a meaningful shift in what's achievable on the platform. Last week, I attended my third Stripe Sessions. Every year, I am amazed by the production quality and authenticity of the keynote sessions, and this year was no different. Several hundred product announcements were made across all dimensions of the platform. Here are the two we are most excited about: 1. Metronome was at the forefront of product forums and showcases in the Revenue suite. It is clear Metronome will be the choice for usage-based and hybrid pricing models going forward. 2. The first wave of extensibility offerings are here - Custom Objects, improvements to Billing Scripts, and enhancements to Workflow, specifically. We're optimistic these primitives allow for better handling of complex #billing and AR use-cases.
