The world's national metrology institutes (NMI's) are global treasures. So much of the quantum excitement today originated in science and technology advances at the NMIs. Furthermore, they are keeping all of us honest through validating (or not) new technology and products, training workforce, and even spinning out a few companies (Vescent is a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) spinout!) National Physical Laboratory (NPL) DFM - Danish National Metrology Institute JILA
Our CEO and co-founder, Scott Davis, will be giving the keynote talk at the upcoming Quantum Pre-Standardization Workshop: Metrology for Quantum Technologies, hosted by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) . His keynote, “NMIs: The Hidden Engine Powering the Quantum Revolution,” will explore the role national metrology institutes play in helping move quantum technologies from research into scalable, deployable systems. The workshop brings together stakeholders from across the quantum ecosystem to discuss measurement, characterization, and standardization needs shaping the future of the industry. The event will also include optional tours of local quantum companies in the Boulder area, including Vescent. More information >> https://lnkd.in/eFwKeuM3 #Quantum #QuantumTechnology #Metrology

Quantum needs to move out of the lab – and standards are how we get there. At the Physics World Live: Quantum Metrology webinar yesterday, our Head of Quantum, Cyrus Larijani, joined leaders from academia and across the UK’s quantum ecosystem to explore the measurement techniques and standards needed to enable a robust, deployable quantum future. The discussion put metrology at the heart of quantum, from developing new ways to measure and characterise quantum systems to establishing primary standards that build confidence, interoperability and scale. Cyrus highlighted how the lack of benchmarking can slow investment, and the importance of international collaboration – such as NMIQ – to create a sound, globally aligned foundation for quantum technologies. 📍 Continue the conversation at London Tech Week If you missed the webinar, catch Cyrus Larijani speaking on Monday 8 June, 3.55pm Panel: Building Tomorrow’s Society with Quantum The session will explore how quantum technologies could transform public services, decision‑making and national capabilities, alongside speakers from the Met Office and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. Deep-tech start-ups cannot be built in isolation... That is why AQLS is staying busy to exchange with the rest of the deep-tech start-up ecoystem. 3 recent examples: - we recently had a prominent visitor in our labs: Ian Walmsley Renowned physicist and co-founder of ORCA Computing! We agreed (among many other things) that Photonics will be a key driver of the second quantum revolution. - earlier this week we met with Henning Weier, founder of qutools GmbH and qssys - Quantum Space Systems GmbH, to exchange our experiences building quantum communication hardware. - AQLS was also present at the European Spin-off summit in Munich hosted by First Momentum Ventures and perfectly organized by Lena Späth! Here, we connected with many new and known faces from the deep-tech start-up world. If you also want to connect with us or visit us in our headquarter in Berlin to discuss how to build the hardware for the quantum internet let us know!

Denmark has world-class quantum research, but the next hurdle is commercialization. Great insights today at the Quantum Industry Day 2026, hosted by Danish Quantum Community. While our scientific foundation is incredibly strong, moving quantum technologies from the lab to global markets requires a completely different playbook. Capital alone isn’t enough. Turning deep tech breakthroughs into industrial realities requires robust corporate governance—specifically, board-level oversight that knows how to evaluate complex technical risk, safeguard IP, and build viable commercial structures. Closing the gap between academic excellence and commercial scale is where the next phase of growth lies for the Danish ecosystem. 🇩🇰 #QuantumIndustryDay

Can Europe afford to play it safe in quantum? ⚛️ That question stayed with us after Quantum Industry Day 2026. One thing was clear: Denmark has real momentum in quantum right now. Across research, startups, infrastructure and public ambition, the foundation is getting stronger. But a foundation is not the same as readiness. If Denmark and Europe want to play a decisive role in quantum technology, we need to move deep research closer to usable technologies, experimental platforms and precision instruments. That requires risk. Especially in hardware. 🔬 At Type One Systems, this is where our focus sits. We are working on the architecture behind the Quantum Lens: a proposed scientific instrument concept aimed at making quantum systems and fields more experimentally accessible. Not as software hype. Not as a shortcut around hard physics. But as part of the physical infrastructure needed to turn deep research into measurable progress. There is still a long road from concept to prototype. But events like Quantum Industry Day are a reminder that quantum ambition must eventually become quantum infrastructure. Thank you to the Danish Quantum Community and the organizers for bringing the ecosystem together. 🙏 Where do you see the strongest need for better quantum measurement tools? #QuantumTechnology #ScientificInstrumentation #DeepTech #QuantumDenmark #Kvantdk #QuantumIndustryDay
