Last week, PwC Canada hosted nearly 100 women for our Demystifying AI, One Teacup at a Time event.    The event highlighted what it takes to scale AI responsibly as adoption accelerates — balancing risk and reward, keeping people firmly in the loop, and building on trust, strong data foundations, and safe experimentation.   Great to hear insights from leaders including keynote speaker Amber Mac, alongside a panel discussion moderated by Jennifer Johnson with Glenda Crisp, Pamela Snively and Racheal Awe. Encouraging to see the impact of so many women across the PwC network helping define how AI is built, governed, and applied in practice. As reflections on this delightful afternoon still reverberate across my network, what remains most salient to me is that this was a conversation of real substance. At a time when so much of the discourse around AI feels meretricious — polished on the surface, but thin on rigor, integrity, or practical value — PwC Canada Demystifying AI, One Teacup at a Time brought nearly 100 women together to engage with the questions that actually matter. How do we scale AI responsibly as adoption accelerates? How do we balance risk and reward without becoming either reckless or pusillanimous? How do we build on trust, strong data foundations, safe experimentation, and governance that keeps people firmly in the loop, and most importantly - at the helm? These are not peripheral concerns. They are the work. It was especially compelling to hear insights from keynote speaker Amber Mac, alongside a thoughtful panel moderated by Jennifer Johnson with Glenda Crisp, Pamela Snively, and Racheal Awe. The calibre of the discussion reflected the calibre of the leadership shaping it. We shall make this a regular occurrence, right Meaghan Turpin and Maddi Thompson? 🫖🇨🇦💐☕️

I am here at MWC and just wrapped up a panel that discussed how organizations can harness AI without losing the human advantage. As AI adoption accelerates, technology is no longer the main constraint, people readiness is. Our data shows that while 88% of employees say they use AI at work to some degree, only 12% have received advanced training that helps them maximize its potential. Today’s panel raised three critical questions: 1️⃣ How do leaders adopt AI at speed without leaving people behind? 2️⃣ Which human skills and roles matter most for meaningful adoption? 3️⃣ And what should leaders do in the next 12 months to unlock real AI value? Most businesses adopting AI are making the same mistake. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮. That came up in a really interesting conversation I had with Georgina Snape at the 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 event in Manchester last night. Her view was refreshingly honest, and it reflected something I’m seeing with many SMEs right now. The biggest issue she sees isn’t choosing the wrong AI platform - it’s trying to use AI before making sure the underlying data is accurate and useful. If the information feeding the system isn’t clean or structured, AI simply accelerates bad outputs. Another honest point: nobody is fully “𝙪𝙥 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙙” with AI yet because it’s evolving so quickly. The best approach right now is to keep learning, keep testing, and be transparent about what you know (and what you’re still figuring out). A useful reminder that good systems and good data still come before automation.
