Professor Dr. Phoebe Koundouri’s Post

Moderating an important session during the 3rd day of the World Academy of Art and Science WAAS@65 Conference, titled “Strategies to Address Job Security and Economic Inequality.” In my introduction, I emphasized how job insecurity, rising inequality, and AI-driven disruptions are threatening human security and social cohesion. I underlined the urgent need for policy reform, inclusive technological transitions, and sustainable labor markets, aligned with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. I also shared findings from our report: 📘 Koundouri, P. et al. (2023). Twin Skills for the Twin Transition: Defining Green & Digital Skills and Jobs: https://lnkd.in/dqTQAhcd Our panel offered powerful insights: 🔹 Prof. Grigoris Zarotiadis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, ASECU) called for cooperative, public-purpose-driven labor policy. 🔹 Prof. Wray Randall (Levy Economics Institute, Bard College) argued that full employment is affordable—what’s unaffordable is mass unemployment. 🔹 Azita Berar UNRISD Chair; former ILO Director) emphasized the need to govern technology, not be governed by it. 🔹 Dr. Daljeet Singh Gahle (IAEA) highlighted the role of governments, media, and individuals in combating labor market inequalities.
