Pricing has fundamentally changed. What was once relatively stable is now more dynamic, more volatile, and increasingly difficult to control. In many businesses, that volatility is still being managed reactively, through negotiation cycles and short-term interventions. But pricing is no longer behaving in a way that can be managed periodically. It needs to be managed structurally. That means greater visibility across the cost base, more disciplined supplier management, and commercial frameworks that can hold under changing conditions. Because while pricing may be volatile, cost management shouldn’t be. #CostManagement #Procurement #Procure4

“We’ll review it later.” 🙅 Later usually means: • when margins are tighter • when problems show up • when it’s more urgent (and stressful) Procurement is one of those things that rewards early attention. We suggest a review every 3-6 months depending on the scale you're operating at. #procurement #sourcing #business

Different stakeholders usually look at distributor-routed purchasing through different lenses. Finance teams think about cost, procurement teams think about compliance, technical leadership thinks about flexibility and vendor access. That’s why these conversations often get stuck. Everyone is evaluating the same structure, but from a different operational concern. The important thing to remember: the contracting, compliance, and procurement work behind a government purchase doesn’t disappear when you buy direct. It just moves somewhere else. Attended a virtual session titled Procurement Decisions & Contract Management Under Pressure The timing couldn’t be more relevant. In today’s environment, supply chains are not tested only when shipments stop. They are tested much earlier — when routes change, insurance costs rise, suppliers push back, and contract clauses suddenly become business-critical. That is where procurement stops being a price comparison exercise. It becomes risk judgment. Operational protection. And the ability to make the right call before the cost shows up on the invoice. Thank you Supply Chain Ready for the valuable initiative and for addressing a topic that directly reflects today’s business reality. In easy times, everyone knows how to buy. Under pressure, you find out who knows how to decide. #SupplyChain #Procurement

Why do we still focus on price over total cost in indirect procurement? I see it often: decisions are made based on the lowest upfront cost, which seems like a win on paper. But this can quickly become a hidden operational trap. Lower initial prices can lead to: * Operational inefficiencies * Lack of process control * Limited supply chain transparency * Increased reliance on fragmented suppliers These hidden costs can easily outweigh any initial price advantage over time. Despite awareness of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), the shift feels slower than expected. Is it ingrained habits or a lack of unified data? I'm curious to hear your thoughts: how do you balance immediate price with true long-term value in your indirect spend? #ProcurementStrategy #TotalCostOfOwnership #IndirectSpend #rubixpost
