Lalitha Ayyasomayajulu was my beloved grand-aunt, and I too have the honour of being a CEG and Anna University alumnus. Her father, my great-grandfather, served as a professor at CEG, and I still hold onto his handwritten application for the Professorship in Electrical Engineering at Guindy—a quiet piece of our family’s history with the institution. On this International Women’s Day, we proudly remember Ayyalasomayajula Lalitha, the first woman engineer from the College of Engineering, Guindy—who graduated in 1943 and courageously paved the way for women in engineering. Her courage and determination broke barriers and inspired generations of women to pursue careers in science and technology.
