A few years ago, short-form animation felt secondary. Now it feels like one of the spaces moving the fastest. And I don’t think it’s just because attention spans are changing. Storytelling itself is changing. Today, creators have only a few seconds to catch someone’s attention… but somehow, many are still building emotion, humor, personality, and strong visual identity in that short time. That’s actually really difficult to do well. In some ways, short-form content is pushing animation to become more precise. Cleaner ideas. Stronger openings. Faster connection with the audience. And what’s interesting is that audiences seem to be responding to it in a huge way. What’s also interesting is how much influence independent creators have now. A lot of industry conversations used to revolve around studios and long-form projects. Now trends can start from a single creator, a short clip, or a platform-native series. Feels like the definition of “successful animation” is slowly changing. The expensive mistake in motion design isn’t bad animation. It’s a great animation of a bad script. We’ve seen it many times. Beautiful motion. Flawless sound design. Transitions. And the message says nothing. The truth about why product videos fail: They’re written by the people who built the product. Not because those people aren’t smart. Because they’re too close to it. They know every feature. Every edge case. Every technical decision that went into the thing. And so they explain all of it. In 90 seconds. To someone who doesn’t yet know what the product does. You are not your audience. The person watching your video doesn’t care about the tech slack. They care about the problem they woke up with this morning.
