Since posting about my first Spartan race earlier this year, I've continued my healthy journey, and this past weekend, I took part in my third race of 2024, the Beast 21km with 30 obstacles in Snowbasin Mountain, Utah. It's a challenge that demands strength, skill, and sheer grit. The elevation climb of 4500 feet and uneven terrain tested my limits, leaving my lungs and legs burning. With no hill or elevation training back home in Miami, I was definitely caught off guard from the offset and knew I was in for a much tougher and longer morning than I had anticipated. It was, without a doubt, the toughest physical challenge I've ever faced. The good news? I made it, albeit slower than anticipated. During it, I was thinking, "Never again," but just 24 hours later, I found myself already strategizing on how to beat my time – so I’ll see you again next year, Utah! While a personal post, this experience truly showcased what our bodies and minds can achieve when we push our limits. Connecting this to my professional life, the training and discipline that I invested in the process have undoubtedly made me more focused and sharp during my working days – win-win! In moving forward, it’s important to regularly take a look in the rearview mirror. Without reflecting on the past and lessons learned, you’re doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. So, as we embark on a new quarter at Carrick, it’s imperative that we take a moment to pause and glean insights from the journey we’ve walked so far. Looking back allows us to not only celebrate our achievements but also to identify areas for growth and improvement. The past quarter has been filled with challenges and triumphs, lessons learned, and milestones achieved. Here’s what I think we should take away from these experiences: Don’t panic. When things don’t go according to plan, having the patience to trust the strategy, keep a clear mind, and avoid panic is crucial. Focus on the customer, their experiences and outcomes. If executed correctly, in our business, you simply can’t fail. Accountability is incredibly important. If your team have a sense of ownership and responsibility, this ultimately drives performance and innovation.
