What if your client’s home environment could learn alongside them? Smart home technology isn’t just about convenience anymore—it’s about connection, consistency, and data. And in the world of ABA, that opens up fascinating possibilities. Imagine this: 🔹 Smart lights that adjust brightness or color as part of a behavior plan. 🔹 Voice assistants delivering reinforcement phrases or task prompts. 🔹 Sensors tracking sleep, movement, or environmental changes that influence behavior. 🔹 Caregivers receiving real-time reminders or feedback through connected devices. Smart home devices could make generalization more natural—turning therapy goals into everyday routines. But with opportunity comes responsibility: ⚖️ How do we balance data privacy with innovation? 🧠 How do we ensure the tech supports, not replaces, human connection? Used wisely, these tools could make ABA more accessible, personalized, and ambient—supporting clients where life really happens: at home. 💡 The question isn’t if smart homes can help—it’s how thoughtful design can make them truly therapeutic. 👉 How do you see smart home tech fitting into future ABA practices? #ABAtherapy #AutismSupport #BCBA #ABATech #SmartHome #AssistiveTech #DigitalHealth #ClinicalInnovation #BehaviorAnalysis #TechForGood

Finding new ways to support Falls Prevention is something we will always be interested in. Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire are setting a new standard in care home safety with sensor-based technology that’s changing the way falls are prevented. These touch-free sensors monitor residents in real time, no cameras, no wearables, helping staff respond faster, reduce hospital admissions, and support independence. As Helen Tite iCareiMove, our Founder & CEO, explains: "The adoption of sensor-based technology in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire’s care homes is a fantastic leap forward in keeping residents safe. When combined with our holistic falls prevention programme, which delivers tailored functional fitness either in person or digitally, it prioritises resident safety, significantly reduces hospital admissions, and boosts confidence in movement. Our programme of functional fitness, paired with cutting-edge sensor-based technology, truly represents the future of proactive, person-centred care." This initiative highlights what we have always championed: care that’s preventative, personalised, and empowered by innovation. Combining data-driven technology with functional fitness programmes means residents can live safer, more confident, and more independent lives, and care teams can work smarter, not harder. In personal project news, this weekend my household hit two key milestones in our project to liberate our smart home from private clouds whose terms of data sharing are no longer acceptable to us: - We removed the Philips Hue bridge from our house while retaining our smart lights - We deleted our home from Apple Home while retaining all of our smart functionality We have also disabled/removed all listening devices provided by Big Corp; no Siri, Alexa, or Google in our house. We have lost 0 functionality. We’re now running everything through Home Assistant. It runs in a Raspberry Pi that’s sitting with our networking equipment in our basement. It’s isolated to its own network, along with the smart hardware, so none of it ever has access to the same network as our computers and phones. We’ve bought antennas to use our smart light bulbs and thermostats through the Zigbee and ZWave protocols without ever calling out to a server outside of our house. We’ve replaced a couple of smart plugs, two very old Hue bulbs that weren’t Zigbee compatible, and the radio module for our smart door lock with alternate hardware that’s compatible with Home Assistant. The big question for us was how we get voice functionality. We have gotten spoiled by the ability to talk to the air and set timers or have our smart home respond to voice commands. We bought the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition to replace Home Pod and Siri on our devices. It *does* listen, but gives us a lot more control about *when* it listens. And it is developed solely to serve the privacy-conscious Home Assistant audience. We are the consumers of a product, versus being a product whose data is being monetized in the Big Corp ecosystems. With the new setup, we get all the same functionality (better, actually) as the old one without giving companies we don’t trust access to our data.

Smart locks are becoming central to the connected home. As consumers build integrated smart ecosystems, interoperability and automation are now key purchase drivers. Here’s what the data shows: 🔹 40–57% of U.S. households now own at least one smart-home device 🔹 Smart locks appear in ~1 in 5 of those homes 🔹 The average connected household runs 17 devices, showing that ecosystem complexity is here to stay 🔹 78% of consumers prefer smart locks that integrate with existing ecosystems like Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit The takeaway is clear: ✅ Ecosystem compatibility isn’t optional—it’s expected ✅ Automation drives engagement: pairing locks with lighting or security routines strengthens daily use ✅ Cross-platform reliability is the new differentiator We’re designing for this connected reality—building locks that work seamlessly within the smart home.

🔍 Your smart home is quietly learning you-every command, pattern, and mood shift-building a profile more detailed than you realize. The evolution of AI personal assistants in smart homes has reached a turning point. We've moved beyond simple voice commands to systems that understand context, emotion, and behavioral patterns. 🚀 This rapid advancement is reshaping how we interact with our living spaces. The technology has become incredibly sophisticated, with devices now capable of recognizing not just what we say, but how we feel when we say it. Key developments that are defining this transformation: • Multimodal interaction capabilities allowing assistants to recognize gestures, facial expressions, and mood changes • Advanced context memory systems that remember conversations and preferences spanning weeks or months • Proactive assistance features that adjust lighting, temperature, and music before you even ask • Emotional intelligence that detects when to stay silent during sensitive moments The adoption numbers are telling a compelling story. Currently, 58% of users rely on AI for entertainment control, 36% for lighting management, and 29% for thermostat regulation. Industry projections suggest that by 2025, 50% of households will use voice-controlled AI as their central smart home hub. Working in both tech and sales, I see firsthand how appealing this technology is to consumers. The convenience factor is undeniable. However, this rapid adaptation brings important questions about data privacy and the extent of behavioral monitoring we're comfortable accepting in our most private spaces. The real challenge isn't just making homes smarter - it's ensuring this intelligence serves users without compromising their privacy or creating unhealthy dependencies on technology. I'm curious about your experiences with adaptive smart home technology. Have you noticed your devices learning and adapting to your patterns? What's been your biggest surprise or concern with these systems? #SmartHome #AI #Technology #TechInnovation #PrivacyMatters #FutureOfTech
