Colleagues, we need you in this. Speak to your legislators about equality for trans people. Trans people are people. Trans rights are human rights. For me, this is not about politics. This is about respect for each other's own life journeys and fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness -- and access to healthcare, government services, and equality before the law. If you think this doesn't affect you, you are one conversation with a loved one away from finding it very much does. Thank you, colleagues, for showing up as allies however you can.
BTW, in case helpful, here are some of the actions I've taken: - Ask trans colleagues directly what actions they would find helpful - Train in 5Ds of Bystander Intervention and support (free online from Right To Be): https://righttobe.org/upcoming-free-trainings/ - Ask meeting planners to choose locations where all our colleagues can go to the bathroom safely (and now, drive), ie, not Kansas, Texas, Florida. The map is here: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/anti-trans-national-legal-risk-assessment-a5d - Encourage facilities leaders to offer any-gender bathrooms - Talk with legislators, even those on record for prior support - Talk with medical and university leaders to support them in resisting the pressure to make medical sites and campuses unusable for trans people. Feel free to share more with us... glad to learn from your experience.
How do we spread dignity for all? How can we build a world that doesn’t accept anything but freedom and equality for all?
The federal government has already had conversations like this about passports. If they accomplish this, it will spread to other states. Soon they will be rounding us up into conversion camps.
This affects everyone. This is about freedom and body autonomy. Trans people are the Trojan horse - once you control one body, you can control all bodies. It shouldn’t matter. Any one group being erased like this should be enough. But if people won’t speak up because it’s the right thing, they should speak up because they will be next. Thank you for posting this!
I really wish someone could explain to me how Trans people ended up being so prominent on the persecution bingo card. I do not understand how a human being living their most authentic life should be seen as a danger, threat or concern to anyone else.
Dehumanizing and problematic in many ways. Trans humanity won’t be invalidated by invalidating drivers licenses.
The last sentence in the letter: "We apologize for the inconvenience this causes you."... how absurdly evil
Thank for for supporting dignity for all humans.
Marginalizing is how it starts. If a group can get away with it, they will continue using these actions as way to focus attention away from what is really going on. People with external locus of control want someone to blame. Things are happening to me and it is their fault. It’s happened through history and sadly with horrifying consequences.
