In my experience, bias mitigation isn't just a technical fix—it's a continuous process. With vibe coding, we quickly prototype solutions that adapt to changing data environments. It’s a way to keep models in check and ensure they meet ethical standards without slowing down development cycles. The technique that saved me hours while building AI Agents. I caught AI Agent lying, again (at this point it is game on, me against AI 😂 ). This time it was one of the strongest foundational models currently available. And then I discovered a method that saves a lot of time. While building AI agents lately, I’ve noticed a pattern. Even very strong LLMs will pick a strategy, configure everything, execute the task, and produce results that look correct. But the reasoning behind the setup is wrong. And because the system still runs, the mistake can easily go unnoticed. In most real-world agents, we define thresholds for decision-making: - similarity thresholds for retrieval - confidence thresholds for tool usage - ranking thresholds for search results - evaluation cutoffs for answers These numbers matter more than people think. What I keep seeing is the model picking thresholds that sound reasonable but are actually wrong. For example: - Reusing thresholds from a different model - Reusing values from a different retrieval strategy - Choosing numbers that look plausible but degrade accuracy The system still works. But the results slowly get worse. You can see a lot of blogs from companies like Vercel, Braintrust, LangChain (you name it) on eval-driven development. While it is the best approach to build production level agents, it is not always applicable. As an engineer you have to be able prioritize efforts based on your needs (sometimes you build internal use agents). And thats where this method works best. (in my unbiased opinion, IMUO I should pattern the acronym 🙂 ) What helped me catch these issues much faster was forcing the agent to predict the expected result before doing the task. One of the Stanford University lectures on AI Agents, talks about task decomposition, standard practice on building a project. What they dont talk about, is before the coding agent begins execution on decomposed task, is to ask a simple question: “What should the correct result look like?” The model generates expected outputs or characteristics of the result. Then the agent executes the task. Afterward, I ask another simple question: “Does the output match what you expected?” Surprisingly often, the model immediately recognizes its own mistake. When you think about AI failures, you usually think about: - hallucinations - crashes - wrong answers But one of the biggest problems is systems that run successfully is incorrect reasoning. And those are the hardest bugs to find. Adding a simple self-verification loop has saved me a lot of time debugging agents that were technically working — but tuned for the wrong reasons.

Let's Build Some Agents (Agentic AI) The final module of my Novigi AI Labs series and the one where everything converges. This is where AI stops answering and starts acting. To set the stage, I compared three approaches to the same task, processing a customer support email: - Rules-based automation: If email contains "password reset" → trigger script → send template. Rigid. If the wording changes, it breaks. - LLM-assisted workflow: An LLM handles varied wording, but the workflow is still fixed. The model participates, it doesn't control the sequence. - Agentic AI: You give the agent a goal, "handle this email" and it decides how to get there. It plans, selects tools, adapts, and executes. No predefined path. That's the shift. Agents don't follow workflow, they orchestrate them. An agent combines three components: 🧠 Brain: the LLM reasons and plans 🗂️ Memory: context and state across steps 🛠️ Tools: APIs, databases, search engines, the ability to act beyond text Four design patterns, originally outlined by Andrew Ng, define what makes agents genuinely capable: 🔹 Planning: decomposing a goal into sequenced sub-tasks, adapting if steps fail 🔹 Tool Use: deciding when to call external tools and what to pass them. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is emerging as the open standard that lets agents discover and connect to tools through a unified interface 🔹 Reflection: critiquing its own output before finalising, catching hallucinations and logic gaps 🔹 Multi-Agent Collaboration: specialised agents working together like a human team: one analyses, one drafts, one checks compliance, one formats the output The part I spent the most time on: autonomy requires oversight. When agents act independently, new risks emerge; explainability, accountability, cascading failures, bias amplification. Human-in-the-loop guardrails aren't a limitation. They are what makes agentic AI deployable. This closed the full AI Labs arc across five modules, from the foundations of intelligence, through machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI, to agents that take autonomous action. The biggest takeaway: AI is not a single technology. It's a capability stack. AI literacy is no longer a specialist data scientist niche. It's a core professional skill. AI systems evolve through levels — from simple generation to multi-agent systems. Everyone talks about AI agents today. But most AI systems don’t start there. They evolve step-by-step through different capability levels. And interestingly, most production systems operate between Level 4 and Level 6. Here’s a simple breakdown of the AI capability ladder 👇 Level 1: Generation The LLM takes a prompt and produces an output based on its training. Examples: • Chatbots • Content generation • Summarization • Text classification Powerful, but the model only knows what it was trained on. Level 2: Knowledge Grounding The model starts using external data. This is where RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) comes in. Key components include: • Embeddings • Vector databases • Chunking strategies The quality of the retrieved information determines the final answer. Level 3: Tool Use Now the model can do things, not just answer questions. Examples: • Calling APIs • Querying databases • Executing code • Reading files This is enabled through function calling, MCP, and tool integrations. Level 4: Memory & Context Engineering LLMs are stateless - every request starts fresh. Memory systems help maintain context across interactions. Examples: • Conversation history • User preferences • Knowledge across sessions Context engineering controls what information the model sees during each request. Level 5: Reasoning & Evaluation The system begins checking its own outputs. Examples: • Hallucination detection • Confidence scoring • Evaluation pipelines This step is critical for building reliable AI systems. Level 6: Orchestrated Workflows Developers design structured workflows. Example workflow: Retrieve documents → LLM evaluates relevance → • High relevance → generate answer • Low relevance → rewrite query and search again • Irrelevant → fallback strategy This enables self-correcting AI systems. Level 7: Autonomous Agents Now the model drives the process. It can: • choose tools • decide next steps • iterate until the task is complete Developers only define rules, tools, and limits. Level 8: Multi-Agent Systems Multiple specialized agents collaborate. Example: • Retriever agent → finds information • Analyzer agent → interprets it • Validator agent → checks accuracy This works like a team of AI specialists. The biggest mistake many teams make They jump directly to Level 7 (Agents). 🔥 Most people using AI daily don't actually understand how it works. That's why their outputs are mediocre. I studied 10 core AI concepts that separate the top 1% from everyone else. Here's the cheat sheet nobody gave you: 1/ Tokens — AI doesn't read words. It reads chunks of ~3-4 characters. Hit the token limit? The model starts forgetting your earlier context. Shorter, denser prompts = dramatically better outputs. 2/ Context Window — This is the model's working memory. It doesn't remember last week. Or 3 hours ago. Every session starts blank. You have to manually feed it what matters. 3/ Temperature — The creativity dial. → Low (0.1) = precise, robotic, consistent → High (0.9) = creative, risky, surprising Writing code? Go low. Brainstorming? Go high. One setting. Massive quality difference. 4/ Embeddings — How AI understands meaning, not just words. Text → numbers → similarity search. It's why searching "car" returns results about "automobile." 5/ RAG — Giving the model fresh data before it answers. RAG doesn't make the model smarter. It makes it informed. Bad retrieval = hallucinations, every time. 6/ Fine-tuning — Training a model further on YOUR data. Most people do this first. Big mistake. It's the LAST resort after better prompts, RAG, and few-shot examples. 7/ Hallucination — The model isn't lying. It just doesn't know it's wrong. Fix: Give it a source. Use RAG. Tell it "if you don't know, say so." Confidence ≠ Correctness. 8/ Agents — Not just chatbots. Models that take actions in a loop. Most "agents" you've seen demoed are fake. Real ones need memory, error handling, fallback logic, and security guardrails. 9/ System Prompt — The invisible instruction layer above every conversation. Most people obsess over their messages and ignore this. That's backwards. This is where behavior is defined before you type a word. 10/ Context Engineering — The new prompt engineering. The best AI engineers aren't writing clever prompts. They're architects controlling what enters the context window and what doesn't. The real insight? You're not competing with AI. Why Everyone's AI Output Looks the Same (And It's Not the Model's Fault) You've seen it everywhere. That unmistakable "𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲" — enthusiastic bullet points, "delve into" phrases, generic structure screaming ChatGPT. We blamed the models. We blamed training data. But after months of experimentation: we're just l𝗮𝘇𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀. Here's what's actually happening: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: 1. Low-context prompts = generic outputs When you give minimal context, the model defaults to the most statistically common patterns in its training data. You're literally asking for average. 2. Prompting is world-building, not instruction Traditional: "Write me a blog post" → Generic output Reality: The more context you provide, the more AI constructs a response matching YOUR vision, not a statistical average. 3. We treat LLMs like servants, not probability engines You're shaping probability distributions, not giving orders. Your prompt is the prior; the response samples from the posterior. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗸𝗶𝘁: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝟭: Deconstructive Analysis - Instead of: "Analyze this $47B market" - Try this: "Break down the $47B market into: Core revenue streams and 5-year trajectories Hidden assumptions in valuations Second-order effects missed by standard analysis" - Why it works: Large numbers trigger generic patterns. Deconstructive prompts force less-traveled reasoning paths, reducing generic outputs. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝟮: Deep Insights Mining - Anti-pattern: "Summarize this article" → Rehash - Pattern: "Extract: 1. Red pill concepts (counterintuitive truths) 2. Most actionable lever for implementation 3. Unstated assumptions 4. Where this framework breaks" - Why it works: You're defining what "good" means. The model optimizes for YOUR criteria instead of generic coherence. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: Stop versioning prompts. Start designing contexts. Every piece of information shapes the probability landscape.
