AI isn’t the problem in ConTech… the problem is that most teams don’t even understand the workflows they’re trying to automate. Everyone’s shouting about AI. AI this. AI that. AI “revolutionising construction.” And yet half the ConTech products I see can’t even handle the basics on-site: No offline mode Slow syncing Confusing UI Zero understanding of how PMs and supers actually work day to day But somehow the answer is always “we’re adding AI to it.” It’s madness. Here’s the truth no one wants to post: If you don’t deeply understand field workflows, AI just makes your bad product… more complicated. And the same goes for hiring. Companies want: “AI-ready talent” “People who can innovate” “Forward-thinking sales and product teams” But most don’t have anyone on the team who has ever: Walked a site Watched a superintendent use their software Observed how data actually gets captured in the real world You cannot “AI your way out” of not understanding your customer. The ConTech teams winning right now? They’re not the ones shouting about AI. They’re the ones quietly fixing real broken workflows first, then using AI to make those workflows faster. Unpopular opinion: AI won’t save ConTech. Real field understanding will and AI will amplify it. Agree or disagree? 👇 I want to hear the spiciest takes. #ai #contech #recruitment #hiring
AI needs to be adopted by senior leadership to drive the change and requires strong process and organizational innovation to ensure you get value from it. Those who get these elements right will massively outperform others over the mid term. Senior leadership investing time in understanding what’s possible and supporting their teams isn’t optional. This is a time where leadership will make more of a difference than any time in history as the speed of change is faster than ever before.

4moOliver Paull 🐳 Great post. AI should be an amplifier of clarity, not confusion. What you describe sounds like a misalignment of product strategy with operational insight something we’ve seen in sectors like logistics and healthcare too. Have you seen any standout examples where ConTech got this right ground-up workflow design, then AI augmentation?
