Mentored at JomHack Varsity challenge over the weekend (thanks Inbaraj Suppiah for invitation), currently watching the final top 10 presentations. Most projects are AI-themed. Sharing here the ideas shown thus far: 1. AI for sign language learning: take picture of an object, then the mobile app shows you the corresponding sign language gesture. You can then practice signing yourself and have AI critique on your gesture 2. AI to create study plan: upload your study material, then the web app will directly break down the chapters into individual time blocks. Each time block has its own timer, so you click start and a timer will run just for that chapter. Kinda like a pomodoro timer but with customized scope! 3. AI to generate sustainable housing proposals for construction consultants. Pick a location on the map and budget. The web app will look up local weather conditions (e.g. sun and wind conditions for green energy), then generate financial estimates, construction schedule, environmental impact analysis, even floor plan! 4. AI for theme parks - headcount detection at various attractions + visitor headcount forecasting 5. Reinforcement learning-backed traffic light logic to allow ambulances to always have green light, implemented in SUMO traffic simulator 6. Get AI to read your insurance policies, so that it can tell you a summary of important details, analysis duplicate coverage between insurance policies and also highlight coverage gaps, exactly what claims are allowed. In their future work, they also want to automate handling your policy claims instead of going through insurance agents. 7. Simple Telegram chat bot for underfunded rural and refugee schools to log and surface their needs (school name, needs category, contact person PIC, etc). The logged request will then be matched to known NGO entities and send them an email directly for to see if they want to donate! 8. Mobile app to take picture of food waste, then suggest AI-generated recipes to make best use of them! 9. Platform for differentiated learning to match teacher volunteers to match to students 10. Extract financial intent from casual text conversations to provide financial advice
