Hey, I'm Luke, come spend a day in the life with me as a nurse on the cardiac step down unit. First, I get report on each of my patients. We cover body systems, meds, lines running, and the patient's overall plan. Next, I do morning meds and assessments for all my patients. Many of our patients have audible heart murmurs due to structural abnormalities of their heart. After that I find a computer and lock in on my charting. In between tasks, I try to check on my coworkers and see if they need anything. Sometimes I need to do sterile procedures such as dressing changes for central lines. This is me getting sterile for a dressing change and opening my sterile field. By the time the afternoon rolls around, I'm in desperate need of an energy drink. If I'm getting a transfer from the CT ICU, I'll prep the room and coordinate a time with ICU nurse to bring the patient over.
