Yolanda Perkins, Ed.S., was excited to share learnings from the New York Math Network, a collaboration between NIRN and NY school districts to support high-quality math instruction, at the Dartmouth Center for Implementation Science Symposium. Results from our Year 1 District Barrier and Facilitator Report show: ✅ Over 55% of barriers are tied to implementation infrastructure ✅ Leadership transitions and communication gaps were recurring challenges ✅ Cross-department collaboration and data-informed planning served as key facilitators The work highlights the importance of distinguishing between what’s within a district’s control and what requires systemic change—and the value of feedback loops and coaching in building capacity. Check out this piece in The 74 lifting up new research with Stanford, and underscoring that “tutoring is not just a path to accelerate learning, it is a path to accelerate leadership. It advances growth for students and jump-starts careers for educators. If we’re all serious about helping students thrive and building the next generation of educators then tutoring must be part of the future of schooling.” Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/edCf6gMs

Here’s the thing about leadership: Most of the critical skills aren’t taught in grad school. In ABA (and beyond), we’re trained in science, data, and systems, but not always in how to listen, mentor, resolve conflict, or lead with empathy. These “soft” skills are the ones that turn knowledge into influence, and authority into true leadership. ✨ Save this post as a reminder of the skills that will set you apart. Which of these do you wish grad school had taught you? 👇 #Leadership #SoftSkills #ABAcommunity #ProfessionalGrowth

Are these true in your school system? -- Pre-service teachers practice with HQIM before they enter the classroom. -- Teachers have dedicated time for HQIM-based planning and professional learning -- Effective educators advance into HQIM-focused leadership roles. Too often, academics and staffing are treated as separate workstreams. Rivet Education’s new report surfaces the challenges of siloed efforts and offers role-specific recommendations to align strategic staffing efforts and curriculum implementation. Bad PD is an equity issue. Time is a resource. And as a school leader, it’s arguably the most high leverage one you have. How you choose to leverage time can either get you closer to advancing instructional equity, or get you further away. If PD time doesn’t lead to stronger instruction or better outcomes for kids, it isn’t just “a missed opportunity.” It’s widening gaps. Solving that problem is the focus of my most recent Equidigm™️ Beyond the Bells episode: how leaders can design professional learning that respects teachers’ time and results in student growth. #BeyondTheBells #InstructionalLeadership #Equidigm #ProfessionalLearning #EquityInAction #SchoolLeaders

The working world doesn’t simplify problem solving into multiple choice tests. So why should schools? At Unparalleled Preparatory Academy (UPA), we have made an intentional choice to teach beyond the test. Filling in bubbles does not prepare students for the real world and memorizing answers is not enough. Solving problems prepares them for life and builds leaders. The future won’t reward students who only know how to repeat; it will demand leaders and visionaries who can solve tomorrow’s problems. Our students are constantly given challenges to work through and they learn to: Think critically instead of guessing. Take ownership instead of waiting for directions. Build confidence through action, not repetition. Most schools teach for the test. That approach rewards memorization but does not prepare students for the real world. At UPA, we are changing that story. Every lesson challenges students to think for themselves and solve problems. This builds confidence, independence, and leadership. Our students’ future demands resilience, creativity, and vision. #EducationReform #FutureReady #StudentLeadership #IndependentLearners #ProblemSolvers #TeachingExcellence #NextGenLeaders #EdLeadership #TransformingEducation

The culture of busyness in education often fosters exhaustion rather than expertise. School leaders and educators have a responsibility to coach students in intentionality, shifting their focus from quantity of effort to quality of outcome. Our latest article outlines strategies for implementing a "Meaningful Learning Audit" and championing "Less, But Better" assignments to foster genuine intellectual growth. Read more on how to make this critical pivot. #EducationLeadership #InstructionalCoaching #WorkloadManagement #MeaningfulLearning https://lnkd.in/ekXH83Y6

✨ Calling all school leaders, teachers, and PD planners ✨ Too often professional development is packed with agendas, protocols, and checklists. Necessary? Yes. Inspiring? Not always. What if just once a year we flipped the script?! What if there was one PD dedicated 💯 to the people in the room… their hearts, their minds, and their souls? For 45 minutes I take educators on a journey through a life-changing story. They will laugh, they will cry, and most importantly they will leave with a fresh perspective on their work and their lives. Teachers are the ones pouring into the next generation. If we do not refill their cups, how can they continue to pour into others? My challenge to schools is to make space for at least one PD a year that is not about systems. It is about the humans who make schools thrive. Let us remind teachers that they matter, their impact is immeasurable, and their well-being is worth prioritizing. If your school or district is ready to reimagine PD this year, let’s connect. #TeachersMatter #ProfessionalDevelopment #EducationLeadership #Gratitude #GrowthMindset
