Bad PD is an equity issue. Time is a resource. And as a school leader, it’s arguably the most high leverage one you have. How you choose to leverage time can either get you closer to advancing instructional equity, or get you further away. If PD time doesn’t lead to stronger instruction or better outcomes for kids, it isn’t just “a missed opportunity.” It’s widening gaps. The working world doesn’t simplify problem solving into multiple choice tests. So why should schools? ✨ Calling all school leaders, teachers, and PD planners ✨ Too often professional development is packed with agendas, protocols, and checklists. Necessary? Yes. Inspiring? Not always. What if just once a year we flipped the script?! What if there was one PD dedicated 💯 to the people in the room… their hearts, their minds, and their souls? For 45 minutes I take educators on a journey through a life-changing story. They will laugh, they will cry, and most importantly they will leave with a fresh perspective on their work and their lives. Teachers are the ones pouring into the next generation. If we do not refill their cups, how can they continue to pour into others? My challenge to schools is to make space for at least one PD a year that is not about systems.
